Quack! Dear good people from BYC!

Well i guess the snake was happy that i saved her from being half-eaten by a duck so she did not bit me.
This ought to crack you up; went out to herd my 2 runners into their shed at dark thirty last night, they hop out of the pool and head for the shed, but something in the pool keeps splashing around! Had to come inside for the flashlight and got a pieplate too just in case. Poor little toads was just about to give up the ghost and was floating around spread eagle when I bailed him out. He's awful lucky those juvie ducks didn't see or know what to do with him!

OMG I really needed that laugh. But snakes though. YUK I am eeeked out. Last year I freaked out when I found some skink under the pool when I was dumping it. I screamed and took off running. My husband came running out with the shotgun ready to save me but then started laughing and said "are you serious? That little skink is only like 2 inches long?" I thought they were baby snakes and that meant mama was around. Boy did I feel dumb
I just hate snakes! And when i saw that thing curled around my duck's neck - It could have been a 15' long Anaconda and i would tried to save the duck!
I haven't seen skinks here, but we have plenty of lizards here helping to keep the insect population down. They are afraid of the ducks and run or hide if one approaches.

Do ducks eat turtles? - I thought it is vice versa, that's why i keep my ducks away from one of my ponds, where i suspect a snapper lives in.

Ducks lose alot of toes and even feet to snapping turtles. They will even damage livestock that are drinking from the pond.
I tried to evict it last year without success, was too afraid to loose fingers. I'm not sure if it is back this year as that pond has dried out two times, but i don't want to risk a duck foot.
My Future plan is to remove a lot of brush and trees around the pond and fence it in securely. It will be duck's paradise! But lot's of work…

I wish we had something like that. So far this is what we were able to come up with.

Hubs is building a duck coop on that pallet. We plan on even having a screen door. The manger has a door that we close at night, which is fine as long as its warm outside. We figure they will need a little house inside the bigger house for cold weather

:gig:lau He was on his way to your rescue, but then realized the skinks needed rescuing from you, huh? That sounds like a typical reaction you could catch happening from me.
