Hi friends, @2ndTink, @GreenJay, @kikiruru @fluffycrow, need some information i know you all will guide me in the right direction. While washing Rose for the booboo she has she pooped. And, there was a round worm:sick. My husband went to the corner feed store and they sold him Poultry Dewoner x5. It's in a capsule :duc. So I borken open the capsule and sprinkled on Rose food. The question is this do we now worm every one or just her coop mates? Would a Liquid be better and worm the flock? What dewormer do you all recommend. Please no herbal because I have read thread after thread and came to the Conclusion that herbal formulas are not going to kill the worm she already had. In the cages are Rose and Maryanne who have now been wormed by dewormer x5
thanks friends

If you are using Poultry Dewormer5X capsules, then read this thread in its entirety to make sure you give your hen enough capsules to deworm her.

Most Use Safeguard Liquid Goat Dewormer/Safeguard Equine Paste which can be found at TSC. OR you can order Valbazen online.

To treat Roundworms Only - Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

To treat most worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworm -

Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row.
---OR---
Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

Why are your hens in cages?

Rose had a wound that I was treating. They don't live in cages unless I'm treating them something. Thanks for the information. I'm going to get the safe guard. But do I treat all my Chickens? If so then a Liquid would be better to make sure she received the full dose. Correct? I wasn't impressed with the Capsule on her feed.

Why would you open the capsule? Just pop it in the beak, she'll swallow it. I think I might coat it in butter or oil to help it slip down.

I used Valbazen and syringed it into each chicken. 1/2 ml per bird. Repeat in 10 days. We put a band on each of our 20 girls as we dosed them, then removed the bands 10 days later on the repeat dose. Roundworms were our issue, too.

Good to have many syringes. We had ten.
You stick them or put it in their mouth? I thought capsule were to big for a chicken to swallow. Of they swallow it ill try it. Also dont you Isolate them from the other chicken and then not eat their eggs? This is the first time I have had this.

Oh, I see.
Yes, I would get the liquid, it's easy to use. Since you are dealing with Roundworms, then treating all the hens would be a good idea.

Here's how to administer orally.
