Please advise. My girl has one nostril that runs a bit. It gets clogged over when she feeds. I rinsed it out with saline twice and one time a piece of straw came out. It doesn't look bad, it's clear. She is not sneezing or coughing, lays eggs is energetic, and acts normal. Baffled and really would appreciate help.

Do you have photos of your hen?
Can you look inside her beak to see if the Choanal Slit is clear of debris. Any lesions/plaques inside the beak?

is normal. The left side pics show clogged , then after a couple squirts of saline and picking off the gunk. The slit looked ok from a glance. She was not a good patient and she would not hold still. sorry about the funky pics! Camera was acting up! thanks again!(the last pic is her normal side...no drainage I've ever seen.)

I've had chickens get clogged nares from dust bathing but more commonly from inhaling feed dust or even a feed granule. An eyedropperful of warm saline solution or warm water helps dissolve the particles so that you can use a toothpick to gently and carefully remove debris. You'll probably have to repeat as long as it takes. Be careful not to go too far into the nare. It helps if you tie the lower legs together with a shoestring so she cant kick and squirm around. Then wrap her snuggly in a towel with her head sticking out at one end.
I do this for other procedures as well, bumblefoot or eye issues for example.
