Silkie thread!

we have i think 2-3 doms left that are active and fine . some of my silkies are just sleeping alot but i just put some electrolyte in the water so hopefully itll help. we have lost 3 doms and a black silkie so far

Like I shared w/ SilkiesForEver I have a Black that is our Personality Plus girl so I'm sad you lost a Black and of course sad about the Doms which I also adore. If you don't lose any more than you got a pretty nice hatch rate. Better than my friend who only got one chick out of a dozen eggs.

I'm pretty sure our 23 week old Silkie just laid our first egg! It's definitely not the EE and I'm told the Cornish bantam will lay a rounder egg. Is this a Silkie egg??

That's a hum-dinger of an egg! How much does it weigh? My Silkies weigh in from 1.25 to 1.5 oz but mostly 1.25. The tint looks about right too. Congratulations

Thanks!! I don't have a scale but it's exactly 2 inches from bottom to tip. Is that big for a Silkie's first egg?? She's been out "runt" from the beginning. But she started squatting lately and even sticking her tail up when I pet her so I knew it would be soon!!

The half-grown chicks, hatched Nov. 21st.

Professor Jazzy, aka P.J. I took these photos Feb. 18th and her crest has filled out since then. It's very feminine now. That, along with her lack of any discernible comb or wattles makes me think she really is a female.

Gorgonzilla, aka Zilla. He doesn't have much of a feminine crest going, so the kids have labeled him a male. I'm not ready to try to guess sex myself. He has a cross beak, but gets by just fine. I keep an eye on him and he almost always has a very full crop. Here's a close up of his beak. The bottom part is perfectly straight, but the top part started curving to the right as it grew.

I posted a while ago about smooth silkies and how long it takes when you cross with something to get back to the pure breed. Do you think there is enough silkie in these to be called silkies again?

Sorry about the mud in the hairstyle. It's been throwing it down here in the UK!

Here is her daughter

Hi suebgbr - how is your blue egg project coming along? I know you wondered how long before your crosses could be called Silkies and you got all kinds of input that without the fluffy feathering they could never be classified as Silkies. Have you altered your project any to call these guys something else? Just wondering how you're doin'?

Chicks do sleep a lot, check the temperature too hot can be as lethal as too cold. At the rate you are losing them I would suspect cocci.
