Depends on the line I think but they're going to need to spend more than that 'cause the dog won't be of much good without training and that's not cheap and takes a lot of time and effort

That said, I’ve seen a lot of puppies on Craigslist for under $1000 especially in rural areas. Well bred ones are probably more expensive but still.

That was how I read it: spending $600 on fencing instead of spending $600 on an lgd. (At that price, I'm presuming it would have to be an untrained puppy, so if the person skipped the puppy they could then buy more fencing with the money they aren't spending on dog food and vet bills while the puppy grows up enough to actually guard anything. The time to install the fence is going to be less than the time to train the puppy, too.)
