What did you do in the garden today?

Oh, but the chickens love it when I throw them the weeds they like to eat, and especially when I rototill the run.

I'm so jealous of all you guys with neutral or acidic water and soil. My native soil pH is 8.2. water is 8.2. water hardness is 560ppm. Keeping my gardens pH below 7.8 is a constant chore. Compost, sulfur, peat, iron. All year.

Start bottling that alkaline water $$$$

Planted the popcorn. Caged the broody. Planted one and a half of the raised beds. Planted melons, transplants and direct seeded. Planted stevia I bought today. My seeds didn't germinate from what I harvested. Planted more peppers, and my celery. Planted some of my winter squash and pie pumpkins. Pruned the suckers off of my grapes and watered the original clover patch.

All in all I got a ton done.

The chicks are getting bigger. Some are so tame you can just scoop them up and snuggle with lots of pets.

Yeah if it wasn't absolutely disgusting to drink. Between the PFAS and chlorine.... And it really is just unpleasant to taste.

Who likes shotweed?

Google says that shotweed is what I know as hairy bittercress. Yeah, it's a PITA, but I hate brome grass and the other grasses that send out long stolons WAY more.

Hubby is up earlier than his early alarm to pack and get ready to go to Charlotte, NC. I didn't sleep for crap, so I'm up too. I foresee a nap in my not-too-distant future.

Lots to do in the garden today. Might have to forego the nap.

I have plums set on the tree. I was afraid the 27 degrees killed my chances during the bloom. Many fell off the tree but enough survived. My bagging experiment proved the tree branch I bagged is not self-fertile. Today will be a good day to spray them. Some sun no wind and a high of 77. I have battled the weed poison hemlock for years. I need to spot spray again.

I had blooms on my plums but see no sign of fruiting, maybe due to the cold snap we had recently.
