What did you do in the garden today?

I store boxes of canning jars on some shelves in my garage. These are brand new, unused jars so they have the lids on them.

I was in the garage spraying some birdhouse gourds with outdoor enamel when I started hearing the lids popping on the canning jars. 👀

This storm that's arriving in a few hours is going to be a doozy! I pray anyone else in it's path stays safe. 🙏
Hmmm. So if you can foods when the barometric pressure is low you'd get more secure, tighter lid seals, right???

Maybe? Wonder if anyone has ever tried?

The storms haven't arrived here yet, although one tornado has already went through about an hour and a half north of me. Between 5 and 9 pm, there will be over a dozen supercells stretching from Texarkana to Jonesboro. It's currently almost 85 degrees so lots of heat energy to feed some monsters.

Canning is really the last thing on my mind right now. 😂

Not in the garden exactly, but I picked a bunch of dandelions and wild violets in the yard and made jelly.

I just caught a glimpse of the weather news in the central part of the country. I do hope everyone is safe. I worked on cutting back the blackberry thicket in my backyard. Apparently all the briars that populated my slope last summer are wild blackberry bushes. I’ll clean up some of what’s left but keep an area specifically for blackberries. I’m not a fan but DD is crazy about them. And heck, can’t turn down free fruit. I also did more plugging away at the side slope where my heather is. It’s coming along and the shrubs are looking happy to see the sun. Good news, last night’s low only got down to 28F so no damage so far. Warmer temps for the next 7 to 10 days.

My asparagus is coming up! I'd never planted asparagus before last year, and I'm such a lazy, slap dash style of gardener I was very skeptical that anything would come of it . . . but it's back! And holy moly, it's looking so much different than the spindly little things that grew from the seed last year. I'm tickled pink over this.

One of the easier vegetables to grow IMO.
