Wrath's Marans

Hmmmm...that's interesting you charge for the egg price and not day old price.
They picked the eggs, they were shipped eggs, plus the additional $20 for me incubating them. I pretty much get paid for doing nothing. These eggs I'm currently incubating I picked and am keeping a few of, so the price per chick will be $6 for him, which covers the cost of the eggs, shipping, with a couple bucks left over and the chicks I keep are free.

I should add that last year the hatch I did for the man who is taking the chicks I don't keep from this hatch only paid $2 per chick because I got all those eggs for free from a woman who purchased a bunch of Orp chicks from me a couple years ago (they always have a ton of eggs) so for me it just varies depending on the situation, but I always make some kind of profit.

This is really good info... Thanks

Let's talk about selling day olds.

Who's done a specific hatch or hatches to sell?
How did it go?
Do you require a down payment and what do you charge for a incubation fee and the day olds?

I got a text from someone I do not know that wants day olds. I don't have day olds, I have eggs. So curious I started asking questions.... What? Marans and Eggers.. How many? 22 .. When? asap..

This is new to me but I'm thinking...why not? There's no lose situation here. If I don't get paid, they're my birds. (Keep or sell eventually)
I just don't know what to charge... I'll need to do a little research on what day olds are selling for and come up with a price I guess and go from there.
Which this of course would all be worked out before I set eggs.

Other than that what's the thoughts on this?
I’ve seen day olds for about £5-£8 each, though I’d consider this a bit steep to be honest when I can get a 18 week old pullet for £10 from the right breeder (I’m talking layers though, not marans).

I’ve never considered it because of the way chickens are sold here. Auctions generally won’t take them without a broody, though maybe some do, and on Facebook I rarely get demand immediately, so they wouldn’t be day olds by the time they sell.

I guess if you got people to order them it would be best, though you’d either have to hatch too many and keep extras or have a very reliable incubator and 90%+ fertility.

We also can’t post them here which I guess makes it more complicated.

Also I guess the younger the chicken the more extreme a difference in sale price due to the higher feed and energy costs here, so maybe my answer isn’t too reliable for your situation.

This is Euro correct? I looked up exchange rate and it's pretty dollar for dollar.
Last year I was selling all my Marans at POL for 30 each. With deals for multiples.

Ordering a new incubator and Govees next week.

What's this mean?
Are you restricted on selling live birds?
