    Any Home Bakers Here?

Thanks, I appreciate that. Also, I like your idea about making duck noodle soup with the remains. Are the ingredients similar to what you would put in a chicken noodle soup? The ducks I ate (and hated) as a kid were Mallards, I'm pretty sure. I don't remember if the taste was fishy or not, I...

Aria & BigBlueHen53 - your loaves of bread look delicious! Makes me feel like making some bread myself. Penny, your pizza looked delicious, as well. So guys, yesterday we went shopping at Costco's. They were selling Roast Half Duck, 28 oz. packages with orange sauce for like $1.98 each! Well of...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

I've never made English muffins before, but they look delicious. I was going through my Christmas cookie/goodie recipes yesterday, and ended up with about 10 different things to make! I will probably cut the list back a bit, cause we really don't need all those extra calories, and I also don't...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Tonight I made a Turkey a la King type dinner and served it over mashed potatoes. We didn't eat that much on T-day because we were sick, so decided to just freeze the left-over turkey so it wouldn't go bad. It really came in handy tonight in making dinner, and I still have enough for another...

This question is kind of out of left field, but - is that a Libbey Gibraltar glass holding your milk in the pic? I've heard they are very sturdy, and been thinking about buying some in one of the larger sizes. All of my sets of glasses have been mysteriously reduced, and I really need a good...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

We're having a Christmas celebration at my brother's house a few days early. For the three of us here on Christmas, will probably have ham or a roast, but not totally decided. MIGHT make lasagna for Christmas Eve. Love that.

My aunt used to use them in her stuffing, and it was honestly the best stuffing I've ever had! :drool

Oh, BTW, my two "rooster brown sugar savers" arrived while I was laid up. I need to get them ready and put them into the jars of brown sugar. I'm really excited about them! I noticed the instructions say they are also good for things like raisins, coconut, etc. May have to buy some more!

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Hi all. Hope everyone had a great T-day. Personally, we did NOT, as I got sick the Monday before T-day, and just recently started feeling better. Now Hubs is sick... ugh :sick Well, onwards to Christmas - time to start planning menus, goodies list, etc. I just love the holiday season!

Don't know what that is, but sounds fancy! I just started some steak strips marinating for tomorrow's dinner. It's a sweet teriyaki marinade, and I will make broccoli, carrots, etc. to serve with it, along with some rice (or may use riced cauliflower since we're trying to cut carbs).

Thanks everyone, for the tip about the brown sugar savers! I just ordered a set of two round ones with roosters on them. They sound very useful, and no more hard brown sugar! :yesss:

Oh, it's brown sugar. We bought a large bag of it at Costco, and once I opened it, I realized the bag didn't have a ziplock closure to help keep it fresh. I decided to store the brown sugar in these airtight jars in hopes that it will stay soft. Will need it for holiday baking!

    Any Home Bakers Here?

So, on my four days off work, I usually try making a few extra meals and store them in the fridge/freezer for the weekend when I work. Frankly, after being gone for 14 hours a day, I don't feel like coming home and cooking, but we still enjoy having a home-cooked meal on those days. Today I...

Oh, you have Lavender Orpingtons? Lucky you! I've been wanting some of those for a few years now. So pretty, but expensive. :( Are they as broody as Buff Orpingtons? Edit - just noticed you said they are 2.5 mo. old, so I guess they wouldn't have gone broody yet - lol.

    Any Home Bakers Here?

My son told me about Chaga a few years ago, and I was making it regularly for quite awhile. Should start making it again. I used to buy it from a guy in northern Minnesota, where there's lots of birch trees. He's not terribly far from where we live, but always have him ship it. Tonight we're...

So would the lower water content help keep cookies from spreading? Is the flavor any different than regular butter?

    Any Home Bakers Here?

No, I've never tried it. Actually, I never even knew it existed until recently when we got a Costco membership, and I saw it there. I wondered what the difference was between it and regular butter, if any. I may try some for baking Christmas cookies this year, due to your recommendation...
