Hey, so I just realized I did something dumb :th:barnie
The other day at a pet store I bought Canary and Finch feed accidentally, thinking it was the Kaytee parakeet food.
Is it okay to feed this to my parakeets? Or will it's ingredients harm them? I can't imagine canaries eat that...
Soooooo...
I may or may not have ordered a total of 50 chicks and 3 ducklings over the past couple of days 😬.
Lord willing, 25 chicks arrive end of February and the other 25 chicks and 3 ducklings arrive mid April.
(For those wondering, yes, I do sell eggs)
My hens have been lazy layers this year (considering the large number if hens I have, their ages, and the few eggs compared), and we are trying to figure out why. My dad suggested that I should worm them, which I think is a good idea.
But, I need a 100% food safe, aka- won't have to toss eggs...
Good morning, everyone!
On Saturday morning we culled 3, 22 week old mixed breed cockerels. They have been resting in the fridge for almost 2 days and probably will stay there until at least tomorrow morning.
I kept one of the carcasses fully intact in hopes to cook it in the crockpot on low...
Good evening, everyone,
Today I brought home 6 chicks from a local store. They had just arrived today. I have a little Buff Orpington who will not stop crying! Not just cheeping, but actual crying. She has water and food sprinkled in the brooder, has a warm (heat lamp) and a cool spot in the...
Just noticed this on one of my pullets. I also noticed her "gaping" (not sure if that's the right term) with her mouth. Kinda like opening her mouth like she was uncomfortable. Is this some sort of ear infection? What can I do to help her if anything? Thanks!!

Is breeding half siblings okay? Aka, same dad but different moms? I know you can breed daughters back to their fathers and sons back to their mothers, so would half siblings bred to half siblings be similar to line breeding? Thanks!!
Good morning, everyone. This morning I walked into my chicken coop to find my Columbian Wyandotte, Twix, dead on the floor. She would have been a year old this month, but God is in control. Thankful though that I have three kids hatched from her eggs. Two pullets (Baby Ruth and Daisy) and one...
I have a Columbian Wyandotte cockerel who has a bumpy comb. He has the little tiny bumps like he should, but also larger bumps. Is this bad quaility?
@NanaKat
In my understanding, breeding siblings is a big no no, but breeding daughters to fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, ect and vise versa with sons to mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, is okay. Is that correct, or am I wrong?
Thanks!!
Good morning, everyone,
I walked into my chicken coop a little while ago, and saw my almost year old cockerel, Maxwell, shaking his head (which he is continuing to do). Upon further "inspection" (although really it didn't take much to notice it) I saw that around his wattles he had some dark...
I have some bluing shampoo coming in the mail. I don't plan on showing this year (although if it comes today it would be helpful for the Standard Bred Chicken show on BYC).
I will be using it on my Columbian Wyandottes, and I really don't want to dye them blue... what ratio of bluing shampoo to...
Could we add a Showing and Grooming section? It could be a place for people who want to learn how to show, people teaching about grooming chickens, ect.
Thanks!
I have a 14 week old Columbian Wyandotte cockerel. I would like to use him for breeding when he's older. His hormones must he kicking in. He's tried to mount a couple of older hens. He lives with a group of 7, 14 week old pullets and 7, 12 week old pullets. The two age groups have been living...
Meet Maxwell, my 14 week old "sexed pullet".
Some back story-
Last year I was looking into breeding chickens. I kept jumping around from what breed I wanted to get into. But, what I came up with was, if God wants me to have a rooster, He can give me one.
Here I am now in June of 2021 with a...
