I feed chick starter (20%) until they feather out good, then start cutting back on the protein. Just have to make sure they have plenty of room to grow comfortably or they may start eating each other.
PS: this is for my larger orientals. I don't have experience with Ko Shamo.
My orientals do well around 15%, as an all around feed for the off-season. They tend to develope leg issues when fed higher protein while they are still maturing.
Everyone has a different opinion on protein ratios and amount of feed. My advice is to feed them, keep an eye on them (pick them...
Hi Guy! Thank you :) I took 17 birds: 4 bantam asil & 13 bantam shamo. They were the only bantam orientals in the show. I had to scratch 3 of the birds I would have taken. 2 for feather condition & 1 up and vanished from my yard. I hope to have more of a balanced entry for the fall shows. Quite...
Thanks Guy :) They are out of a microdot asil hen.
A craptacular photo of her using my cellphone. Keep in mind she's brooding chicks, her tail isn't normally held so high.

Howdy! Nice to meet you
I have (in keeping with the topic of the thread) thai, asil, malay, brazilian, bantam asil, bantam shamo, and bantam malay.
I also have a couple of breeds with oriental game fowl origins: cubalaya and orloff.

Okay, I will be sure to monitor his beak. Up close, he seems to have a perfect beak. It closes perfectly and is not crooked. But I will still keep an eye on things.
My Dad and I are trying hard to get a pen for Ivan so his legs won't be damaged by the concrete. I was a little worried...
Illia, sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. I empathize with you, as I've had the same such luck hounding me these last couple of years. I hope you're able to find a couple of good hens this next year.

Belle Farms or Randall Burkey, both can be found online but best if you called Belle Farms to make your order. Their website is a little difficult to figure out, last I looked.

June or July is too hot down this way to ship. Some breeders do, but I don't like taking the chance.
Large fowl oriental or bantam?
You likely won't find dominate white in an oriental unless something was added to the line.
