@junior67 Your chicks of the wrong breed that hatched. Was that the same seller who gave the incorrect # of eggs (with the project eggs) or the other one?
I would be upset if I expected purebred birds (I’m guessing you paid purebred price) and got someone’s project birds instead. Not cool but they do sound adorable. Maybe you’ll end up really liking them.
I hope this set is better than the last. You deserve a good hatch!:hugs:fl
:barniewhat’s the deal with that second seller?
It sounds like you’re leaning toward Monday. Personally I think sooner is better for setting shipped eggs. However, not at the cost of missing a hatch. Most of your success has already been determined by what handling they receive during shipment...
I always figure 50-60% hatch with fridge eggs. That’s based on many attempts at them.
Even after a couple years hatching I’m always impressed with 100% hatch rates. For fridge eggs that’s even more impressive! It’s like you do this a lot or something. ;):jumpy🤣
Did you get your tracking info? If I read your posts right I’d say set them sooner and have the housesitter move late hatching chicks. I think that was an option Hopefully you can catch most of them hatch. It’s crummy when people don’t ship when they say they will. I’ve had it work out to my...
@CluckNDoodle Pandora’s box has been opened. I texted my husband the Etsy link with the 360 dividers. He said no problem. Then he started browsing other accessories by the seller. Caps for the water ports, different size turners. Finally he saw the lid risers.
Him: What are these for?
Me...
I’m copy and pasting this from the June Hatch along:
“How do you like your NR 360 dividers?
I’m debating between ordering some from Etsy or asking my husband to 3D print some for me. If I ask my husband I’ll have the opportunity to have him make design adjustments. To measurements or what not.”
Yes, it'll even out quite a bit when the eggs are in. However I disagree slightly with @CluckNDoodle about how long that'll take. I would give it at least 4-6 hours before I'd expect it to really even out if you'd filled it up. Less eggs would take less time.
My unsolicited advice for you...
This is a very important step a lot of people miss. Filling the well when you have good visibility (turner and base plate removed) the first few times. So you can learn exactly how much water takes per well. Also how it looks deceptively "full" based on the outside well water level when it's...
Third chick hatched overnight. Hopefully that's it till Friday. I'll pull them out this afternoon. Do a quick clean up and get ready for Friday's hatch.
I officially entered the infamous I Hatch Too Many Eggs To Keep Track Of Them All Club. We took a last minute trip out of state. One final ski day for my husband and kids. I topped off the incubator with extra water based on how long we'd be gone but that was it. Turner will going and...
Beautiful eggs! You'll get some lovely chicks from them.
Honestly? I've been hatching 3 years and it's never gotten old. I do 2-3 batches of shipped eggs for myself each year. I'm already planning next year's keeper. The rest of the time I give the chicks away to friends, neighbors, or other...
