I got ahold of the breeder who assured me, these are 100% silkie cuckoos. The cuckoo roosters do sometimes bleed and she doesn't know why but someone else was saying the same thing. That really can't be quality though.
Ok phew, they aren't crosses! I think leakage is fairly common, I don't know how you would breed it out / shut it off though. The cuckoo makes it hard since you'd have to have cuckoo females too.

I think you are safe to stay with your original plan of just keeping a NN if it is a pullet. If you're on the fence, I'd say sell it. It's very unique so I'm sure someone will be super happy to get it. Some people like the look of leakage.

For your super gorgeous cuckoo / white, definitely keep it!

I agree. Thank you.

Oh, but I do have two female cuckoos. This is the normal cuckoo rooster and they look pretty much like he does with white tufts on their heads. One's a bit lighter, the other a bit darker. Not sure why I never snapped a photo of them, yet. But, I'm not into worrying about breeding bleeding out so I'll find fancy boy NN a home, and keep the B&W one and if he keeps passing on bleeding, oh well, I'll deal with it somehow.

I agree with @2ndTink keep the adorable frizzle and rehome the NN roo. That frizzle is so beautiful! It reminds me of two frizzle chicks that I have that are “silver laced satin” they don’t have the awesome cuckoo tail though 😍
I'm going to do that. Thank you both! I appreciate your making some sense of this for me! :hugs

Edit: I re-read your post - is the picture a cockerel? Sorry from this angle he looks all pullet 😂 And he doesn’t have his red comb and wattles yet!

What a gorgeous cuckoo pullet!!!! Ugh you’re making me want to try and get more cuckoo eggs! I had 1-2 in with my Bobbi order but they didn’t develop 😭 I was really sad about it. And my “lemon cuckoo” chick I think didn’t get the cuckoo gene because it looks solid buff to me. So I don’t have any cuckoo at all and after seeing your pullet I’m kind of sad about it 😂

Are you talking about the B&W one? I know that one doesn't have comb or wattles yet, but I assume it's a rooster due to posture. I'd be blown away if that one turned out to be a pullet as I'm so sure it's male. It stands tall all the time, whilst the hens don't.

I agree. Thank you.

Ooh, I like him, the baring looks awesome silkied! So... could you breed a chocolate silkie rooster over a cuckoo hen and get barred carrying chocolate males, then breed that over more cuckoo females and get a few chocolate cuckoos in the hatch?

But alas, I only have a chocolate hen, no chocolate roosters.

I had 10 chicks that hatched yesterday, and someone just came to buy 6 of them. I figured I'd grow out the other four, but she wound up buying them all.

When those "shipped eggs" I bought (she's shipping Monday) get here next week, I'll set some of my own with them. Then I'll keep a couple of chocolates and maybe a prospective splash or mauve out of that bunch and they can grow out with the others.
I still have time to grow them out before winter and can sell them if they turn out not what I wanted. I'd keep both a chocolate pullet and cockerel once sex is determined though, and probably a splash of any sex.

Here's what I was thinking of one possibility of penning up in a few months or next February:

Pen 1:
Roosters:

1 mottled roo (counts as black for the paint). (sex pending)

Hens:
1 NN white paint hen - the little princess.
1 mottled hen (sex pending)
1 black hen
1 buff frizzle hen - see below. She turned out awesome! (4 mos old.)

Pen 2:
Roosters:

1 B&W frizzle rooster (my most beautiful).
1 "normal" cuckoo rooster

Hens:
3 cuckoo hens
1 chocolate hen
1 splash hen (Marsha, in my avatar)
1 or 2 more hens

I'm just brainstorming future plans with these birds, so I can consider which ones to get rid of. Toss out ideas if you have any, keeping in mind the frizzle roo and frizzle hen have to be separate.

Whoops, just found out he's got red leakage on his head because...he's part Tolbunt Polish.

That sealed the deal. Though he's gorgeous, I've got enough other varieties of silkies to tend with in the coming months and really don't have the desire to start something else. I could never breed him to my show quality silkies as there goes my reputation! I actually have a small one, so rather hang onto it. :old

Lordy, I have eggs being shipped Monday being those lemon cuckoos, buffs, etc. so I have enough to keep me busy with these all.

Sadly, this means my favored black/white fuzzy one I vowed to keep no matter what he was, is also crossed with Tolbunt Polish. There are a couple of red feathers leaking in on him, and his head is turning yellow. I shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of them. It's rather disheartening but they'll make someone else very happy!
