24 hour old chick with legs and feet issue.

I think he is just stunted from lack of nutrients. He's just started eating chick starter for real. He's got feathers started now, though!!
YAY! I was hoping and praying for good news!! Just the best news! Thank you for your other messages, I'm sure we could cackle for hours on end! I don't like the corn as first ingredient, either, but Purina has worked the best for my household, to include putting my cat, Jasper, in complete remission with his IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) - the extra fiber stabilized his gut. And this was after trying every possible food solution for him, to include nauseating amounts of research trying to find the best sized protein molecule as that was supposedly at the heart of the issue. Nutrish, to me, it just smells off. I wonder if the oils they use go rancid... It's so good that you have such a fabulous support system. This creates the best kind of karma environment in which special peeps thrive!

You just have to use whatever is best for your pack. I understand the research into foods ad nauseam. It gets really old.
I am pretty lucky on the support system. 😊

The videos are such a wonderful testimony to Seal and your journey, and really show such an endearing journey between Seal and his momma! His feathers coming in shows the nutrition and support he is getting are really helping him! I imagine it takes the chick's body a great deal of energy to produce feathers, and now, here they are! I see his little legs are getting stronger, too, little karate kicks! Still the feet just kind of there, but he will learn to compensate. (Calling Seal "he" as that is what you are doing, and at this point, who cares whether he's a he or she, right?).

I started the videos to show on this thread, but because I had to post them on IG first, Seal is getting major likes, views, and followers. I can't disappoint his fans! 😁
This IS a journey for the both of us. I've never had to work this hard to keep a baby alive before. Usually by day 2 they either recover or have passed. Injuries are different all together, and I've had some doozies.
The feathers are amazing! I was worried he was barely getting enough to survive! His form of movement has to take so much more energy than normal, and I seriously was worried he wasn't getting enough. I mean, he's still not, but it's getting better. I'm sure he will always be smaller than his giant siblings. And yeah, his feet just flop around and are useless. I was thinking about taping his legs straight again, but I don't see the point in doing that to him. He will never walk normally. I'll just have to come up with a way to pad his knees to walk.

I've started calling him a he because of the literature I've read about this condition. It all says it affects mostly males. It'd make sense because this chick has some lungs! 😆

I am thrilled that he is getting a full crop! It's all trial and error with this dude. Dinner will be egg mash mixed with the chick crumbles. This morning I wanted to see if he would just eat the feed. He needs those vitamins.

From the second video, where he tries to walk and then weebly-wobbly tumbles back, if somehow he had a bootie with an disc for the soles of his feet, that extended back, behind the heal of his feet, so he can steady himself without tumbling back,... A little stable platform at the ends of his leg bones, rather than just teetering on the little ends of his leg bones as he does not appear to have a sense that he even has feet...
