My young chickens have started eating the BOSS, and it's suposed to be a great substitute for scratch as it is higher in protein. (15%-16%) While feeding it to the chickens I heard crunching behind my back, I turned around and found my pekin girl snatching up the seeds that the chickens droped. She seemed to enjoy them. Are they good and safe for ducks? I haven't heard of anyone on the duck forums giving them to their ducks.

Alright, guess I have to pick up the scattered seeds that the chickens left behind....

the seeds will be ground up in their crop. That's why they need grit available to them (either as a supplement or by foraging).

wow - the crop is more powerful than I would have guessed!

How much can you be feeding the chickens if you feel you need to pick them up? I thought they were considered a treat? anyways, sprouting sunflower seeds add nutrients and some of those wouldn't hurt as treat either, I give my chicken it plain and sprouted, spouting makes it a two in one treat. Get a strainer /colander place them in it,wet them really good ,I keep mine in my sink at all times so I can rinse them 3 or so times a day. I tried the normal jar way but this is easier as you have to rinse and drain.
