Hi everyone,
I’ve had my bantam chickens for almost around three years and they haven’t been sick once however I went outside today and saw one of my chickens had her chest bone sticking out with her feathers falling out around that area. She was eating fine and drinking plenty of water but had some trouble walking. It’s been a couple hours since I first saw it and now she’s walking a little better, just very slowly. Does anyone know what this could be and what I could do to help her? I’d really appreciate it!

Hello selanaapril.
Welcome to BYC.
Can you please post some very clear pictures of where the bone is sticking out.
Trim back some feather carefully if necessary.

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Sounds like she may be molting and you are describing her keel bone being prominent?? Which can be very painful and sometimes results in odd behavior. Do you know when was her last egg? Are you able to post a pic?

She could also be having a parasite load issue.. internally or externally. Pics can tell a pretty good story. Do you use any prevention or treatment program for worms, mites, lice and such?

Adding your location to your profile might help others make more relevant suggestions at a glance. ;)

I’ve been checking the coop but she hasn’t laid an egg in a while, i’d say maybe a couple months at most.
