Egg Turning

From watching the videos most DYI egg turners have the eggs laying on the flat side. My both bought incubators though have the eggs with the point side down and they turn at 45 degrees. In natural I think the eggs are on their sides.. So is with point end down better?

Is yours like this one:

No, I made mine out of a stand up beverage cooler from a convenience store. The refrigeration no longer worked and I gutted all of the unit out. Mine has a glass door to see inside with a magnetic seal. The inside (this is an estimate) is 16" wide x16" deep x 36" height. I haven't decided how many turning trays that are going to be put into it but, I'm choosing between 5 or 6, based on clearance needed for everything.

I don't know what is the correct method for turning eggs but I can tell you that I have been successful with mine, I mark the egg in thirds with a 1 2 and 3 and I turn them 1/3rd rotation 3 times a day turning the egg 1 full rotation a day. I even forget a turn or 2 and once I even forgot for an entire day. Eggs developed at the same rate as the eggs in my egg turner. I am guessing as long they are being turned it should work but if there is an official correct way I would recommend it over what I do.

On the natural light -- how do they get a natural light under a mother hen?
@Phunktacular have you watched some of these videos? I don't have time yet, I'll probably watch them during the weekend.

I have watched so many incubator builds, I almost feel like an expert. Not at hatching (though I've had great success) but, seeing the different ways and types of incubators to build. My first was a really basic attempt to try it. My new one will be more precise and I'll make it much cleaner. Meaning, no wires visible and I may even paint it, as well as building a box for the incubator to be mounted onto to hide more wires. It's going to have a build in turner and I'll mount a light inside to view the eggs.
