POPPET, You naughty, naughty hen!!

She finally started back up laying 5 days ago. She still has Turkey sticking to her like glue.

I came home from work to a shrieking demon trying to hoard 4 eggs and her chest completely plucked :he.

Turkey was guarding her momma and pecked me when I moved her off the eggs.

5 days Poppet, I really expected more from you. You could have at least given me a month before you pulled this stunt. I still have another week before I can even being to collect eggs to set for pure silkies so this is not going to happen.
Yep - seems Poppet and Georgie are on the same wavelength- Georgie is also doing her best ‘I am a big turkey and I will attack you’ look.

Grrrrrr! These broodies!

Mr P’s tail feathers are coming in nicely. Now if only his head feathers would improve 😞

@RebeccaBoyd @Ponypoor

Pour on ivermectin for mites/lice right? Buffy gave them to Marble...I need to treat them both before we bring chicks out there. Managed to catch the poor guy again and he's crawling with bite marks above his vent. He was clean when I got him home, and Buffy came from a free range flock.

And diatomaceous earth for the coop...
What kind of mites? Northern Fowl mites or red mites?

I used Gordon’s permethrin 10% diluted in a spray bottle when I found NFM and that was effective. Sprayed the chickens vents, necks, under-wings, cleaned and sprayed all coop surfaces, removed the litter below or in the vicinity (eggs) and soaked the ground.

I saw lice crawling and some dotted feathers, didn't want to stress him too much so I am assuming he has clusters of eggs somewhere.
@Ponypoor will this stuff work?

Has permethrin and pyrethrins
This looks like overkill, literally! Try the simplest and least toxic thing first. In my opinion. I would try permethrin first.

Sometimes mites and or lice are resistant, which comes with regular use, some people use pour-on or spray stuff monthly as a preventative, not best practice for resistance issues, again in my opinion. But if you or the previous keeper haven’t used it a lot then permethrin will likely be fine.

Diatomaceous earth is another issue. Sharp tiny shards in their lungs is not good, again in my opinion. I’d just do a thorough job with the cleaning and treating, and stay vigilant.

I don’t know that you want zero bugs around. We just want no overgrowth of anything.
