I am very proud of you. I never got nowhere near this close with Momma Hen and I tried hard. I do not think she will ever be lovey dovey, it is just not in their DNA. She trusts you though and that is all that matters. Well done.
I’m honored that you are proud of my accomplishments

I’m wondering if God put STP (engine performance lubricants)
In their DNA, because they are so fast and not your normal chicken breed. It’s the jungle that has not been bred out of them I guess. Even the babies have mamma’s traits and bite me. I let them bite, maybe they are strengthening their beaks like all babies do with their teeth. :idunno

But, darn it, they are so cute I can’t stand it! :love

My silkie dumplings bite me, and have the zoomies all the time. And when they don’t want to be caught there is no catching them! Brats! Trimming up their forelocks ensures their eyesight is perfect for evading the Hooman!

Mrs LC is very sweet and loves to snuggle…. Maybe is not a game bird at heart.

Silkie egg update.

I found out yesterday that the first 15 that were set from my pen were candled on day 7. All 15 showed development. I'm so relieved to hear this as with young cockerels you just never know if they know how to do their job.

My group will be candled tomorrow evening. I'm hoping for very similar results.

Hatch day for the first group is next Tuesday. My co-worker joked with me yesterday that her sister has been telling each egg you will be blue, you will be blue. They are joking that since I want a few blue chicks, I sold them all in this first batch of eggs. I will end up with blacks and partridges.

I'm saying it now, if that happens....I will cry. I will also immediately load up the incubator for round 2.
If you don't get any blue Silkie chicks what's your plan for the surplus blacks or partridges you hatch?
