I don’t know how much longer I can stay in this situation. The little ones have me pinned down to the couch. Mama hen sitting nearby and calling the shots. I have fed them, but I need breakfast too. I can’t just get up and walk out, they are everywhere! At least I have my cell phone. If I was to call emergency services, then what would I say? “Please state your emergency”
“I’m covered in baby chicks and they won’t let me leave my room.”
“They bite hard and are profusely being sure that I don’t leave”
Maybe I could call animal control and ask for advice.
Sounds like paradise to me...getting pinned down to the couch by chicks away from the kitchen sounds better than using Weight Watchers or Nutrisystem...:idunno

Well this isn’t exactly the flock photo yall asked for, but I’m a proud mama with my chooks roosting for the first time! All 13 lined up 😭 yes, I did have to block off the nesting boxes but it was totally worth it and only took 3 days for them to figure this out 😜

Flock update- 7/8 weeks old and they are *almost* on their “regular chicken schedule” - going in and out to their run with the auto-door, flocking to me for a treat once a day and to peck my boots, and really enjoying the spring air and plenty of space to flap their wings. Portrait of our gold laced polish who were still not sure the sex of!

Egg update...

I did not get to properly candle the eggs. My flashlight I use has dead batteries. I have a crap ton of brand new double A batteries lying all over the house. I have zero triple A's.

Curiosity got the better of me and I did steal mom's phone and pulled 1 random egg out to candle using it's flashlight. I was rewarded with a dancing black spot. That was enough for me and I will get a pack of batteries before next Wednesday for the day 14 candle. This will be the important one anyway that I cannot skip.

I have had a bit of a issue keeping the humidity steady this go around. It is not the incubator it is simply because the living room is a bit warmer and dryer this year as we have not put in the window air conditioner yet. The last couple years I would only have to add water every 2 to 3 days to keep it steady. I am having to add water daily to keep it where I want it. It is ok though, that one dancing black spot is enough for me to breath a bit easier.

I will say this summer or fall it is time to invest in a new incubator. Ole reliable has served me well. For a first incubator and not a high end one it has and is working wonderfully. After this season she will be turned into the hatcher for following seasons.
