Thanks Bob. I have been plagued by them since winter start. Been told either stress or a vitamin issue. Been taking vitamins so guess it’s stress!![]()

feel better soon
I was skepticalwhen I heard them described this way. The forwardness of all of them is markedly different than my previous flock (a mix of colored layers, FBCM, and Orps.)
I know I risk sounding weird here lol but the best way I can describe it is they seem to be hyper- aware of the world. Once they check out that it’s safe they are all over me pecking, grooming my hair, digging in my clothes en mass. Like a tiny feathered army on a mission to discover the world.
This does indeed make it quite easy to get great photos![]()
So happy your SFHs turned out to be fun
I mean, have you seen the eggs! I would be panting too haha.Is it normal for chickens to pant before/during laying?

Cadet was strutting all proud until Marble came through the run door...then he ducked into a coop. Marble stopped like "really kid? We were having a concert earlier" then decided to see if his head fits in the port feeder. It does.A contest![]()

Must have been a tantalizing batch of wild water for this thirsty Thursday.
It’s too bad we can’t neuter them like dogs or horses - gives them an attitude adjustment.Every time someone has a nice roo, I miss not able to have one.
Then I hear a story from my therapist's asst who has a roo they rescued as a chick but as a grown roo attacks everyone in the familyI steered them to BYC for info taming a roo but it sounded to me like a hopeless case. Maybe he should be processed to not pass along the bad trait to future chicks?
Greenfire's original SFHs didn't have crests. SFHs must be landrace chickens, i.e., like Hedemoras that come in different colors & some w/Silkie type fur while others have regular feathers.Yeah, I think about 5/10 have them.
