Friendly Breeds in Silver?

I think Wyandottes in columbian, silver laced, or silver pencilled are your best bet.
They have a lot of silver to offer and are prolific dual purpose birds. Very good for cold climates.
They only thing I’d worry about is the temperament. The hens can be fine and all but the roosters can be nasty. There are two ways you can solve this problem
1. Breed away from it. From what you say about wanting meat and eggs makes it sound like you’d be comfortable eating a few mean roosters. Temperament is very genetic and by selecting gentle boys can be fixed in a few generations.
2. Buy from a breeder. Many breeders have a no tolerance policy for mean roosters. They are a waste of resources and do not show well. If you buy from a breeder, you will probably own some cool-headed birds. (Being able to show them is always a plus.) :p

Sebrights are probably less cold-hardy than the floppy-combed Leghorns. Many people have to keep them under heat lamps here in Wisconsin.

Search William Guardhouse, he is in Canada but has some very nice Silver Laced Wyandottes with spot on color. Sebrights would not do well unless housed well, they are very small and do not tolerate bitter cold well. Silver Polish would be a good choice, very docile and good layers, coloring is usually very good but they are fairly rare in large fowl but more common in bantams. They have very small "V" combs covered by and large crest and the bearded varieties have no wattles to freeze either. Silver Ameraucanas would also be a good choice, they are not laced but are an absolutely stunning variety and lay blue eggs.
