Hopeful Hatch Grow-along

Pics
I am so sorry - I have followed this group from hatch and I know how special these babies are to you. You gave them the best start to life and you did them a service by sending all 3 together. I always love to rehome multiples if at all possible. It was so sad that so many of your hatch turned out to be boys but Im so glad you have your two cuties still. Hugs!
thank you! I’ve been so thankful for this community, it’s lonely sometimes being a “chicken person” to people who don’t get it lol. But I wouldn’t have done anything differently if I had to do it over again. It was an amazing experience hatching them and raising them, and I know Winchester went to a great home. And I’m glad I could keep at least 2. ❤️ I’ll always have a piece of my flock with me. And actually I’m quite glad to have a rooster from them, because all future babies I hatch will have a piece of them too.

Wow, you guys. I am so happy that Winchester is going to a great home, don’t get me wrong. They sent me pictures of their setup and the coop and run and everything and it’s seriously wonderful, so much enrichment and very safe. They came to pick him up just now. As soon as they left I started crying and I didn’t think I would. I purposefully have tried to not bond with him, but it was hard to take him away from all his siblings (they were all dust bathing in the sun) and hear him crying and trying to get to them through the carrier because he couldn’t understand what’s going on. I know he will adjust and I know he will be fine. It’s just hard to do that to them and not be able to explain what’s happening and why. Maybe I do just need to keep a small bachelor flock. I was not at all expecting to react this way. ☹️

They are going to be naming him “The Boss” which I think is awesome and will probably be very fitting, since he’s the largest of his siblings and will not be a small bird by any stretch of the imagination. Her kids (middle-school age) have been so excited to have him and waited so patiently for him. I really couldn’t have asked for a better scenario.
Bye Winchester! Glad you got a great new home (wish I could've claimed you!) They may call you the Boss but you'll always be Major to me!

Sorry you had to emergency re-home the others! :hugs

I don't know anything about showing or SOP. I can't even seem to find chicken shows in my area, be interesting to attend a few...

(Had to catch up all at once since I missed a few days LoL)

A couple of fun discoveries as we’ve been watching our faithful two continue to grow out.

Colonel potter has a few feathers with his fathers coloring peeking out, including a buff tail feather. I think it’s really sweet. He also has a couple of buff feathers hiding under each wing. I didn’t see any buff coloring on the other two SLW crosses so it’s kind of fun to see both parents in both the babies we kept.

Here he is just being cute.

I also have some updated pictures of Mabel who is just the sweetest thing. She is mostly buff, but I can’t figure out where her grey legs come from! She has some black markings like her mama, too, mostly on her wings and ends of her tail feathers She’s hard to snap a decent picture of because she’s always up in my business lol

Any clue as to where the grey legs came from? Neither parent had them! I find that interesting, and I wonder if Hunnicutt (the only other girl who passed away) would have had the same color legs. Her legs turned grey and were kind of a dark orange when she was littler.

They are so cute together and are just such sweet birds, always want to be near me and sitting on me in some way if I’m out in the yard. Glad I could keep them both. ❤️

I like Mabel's grey legs, it's an interesting contrast to her buff feathers 😊
They look adorable!
