Hopeful Hatch Grow-along

Beans is adorable! :love Both the name and the chick LoL.

Colonel Potter seems so sweet! 🫠

Sounds like Major Winchester is going to a great home. They know he has to keep his name? In fact make sure they always call him the full name - Major Charles Emerson Winchester the 3rd in their snootiness Boston accent. :lau
jk, but if I ever end up with a rooster I just might name him that ;)
It really is a top tier name for a rooster!

I knew a horse named Beans. No idea why he was named that, I never asked his owner. Sweet, talented, smart boy that hated the rain. I rode him a lot when his owner was out of town, and we helped start another horse under saddle. Twas fun when he locked onto the horse we were training like a cow!
Sometimes it just fits and doesn't make any sense as to why lol. Our friends have a horse named "Spoon", which I find hilarious. He is a really amazing horse, too. Sometimes I think the best horses/animals have the most ridiculous names! 🤣

I used to ride a horse whose name used to be "Pooter." We eventually found out why while practicing for showmanship (he would fart as he passed the judge). His owners renamed him Wyatt.

My horse's registered name is Coyote Queen, and I get why. She is out of Coyote Cafe, and her grandsire on her dam's side is Seeking the Gold. She definitely thinks she is better than everyone else in her pasture, for sure. I have nicknamed her boyfriend, Zee Oh Six, "King" for a few years now, before I even knew that Queen existed.

We named Queen's 2024 colt Noble Thief. His sire is Shoplifted, by Into Mischief. I like to say that he steals your attention.

Other weird horse names I have known:
Monkeywitmybidness
Grass Snake (lovely little mare that is very very sweet, her barn name is Scarlett, and I think they officially changed her JC name to something else)

We also had an alcohol barn a couple years ago with:
Woody the Wino
Tony's Last Call
Amber in Ice
Magic Liquor
Moonshine Martini

I work at a Thoroughbred rescue.

Am I Crazy, or is Cayenne also a roo?!? Chili is on the left. It would just be my luck to get one pullet out of 6 eggs. 😵‍💫 Cayenne’s comb is not quite as big or as red as Chili’s. All my other chicks are sex linked and rose combed so I don’t have much for comparison. Chili’s comb started getting big and pink at like 3 weeks, much faster than Cayenne, and his wattles are bigger. But I’m feeling highly suspicious. I hope Cayenne is just a Tom-boy. 🫠 am I just paranoid after all these cockerels I hatched? Maybe. 🤣

That’s awesome!! I have a couple horses too. Neither are papered or registered as far as I know, but their names are Zip and Radar. Zip’s an 18 yr old appendix quarter horse who came to me with that name. I usually call him Zipperman Jones (??? Don’t know why or when I started saying it but I can’t seem to stop calling him that) or Bubby. Radar came to me with the name Lucky, he’s just a mix/mutt of sorts that was rescued from a bad living situation as a youngster. He ended up having a cancerous mass on his eyelid, so I took him as a package deal with Zip from the previous owner who couldn’t afford to have it taken care of. It’s responding to treatment which I’m super happy about because I want to get him started under saddle he is so fun to work with. But I figured the name Lucky hadn’t turned out too well for him so far, so we named him Radar (another MASH name, I know) and it fit him like a glove. He definitely knows his name, but I also call him Chungus McGee on the regular. He’s in shape (round is a shape right?) 🤣

Yikes Cayenne- you are looking rather roo-ish!!! 😥

I knew it!!! I get to keep two from the whole ordeal. I'll post updated pictures in another thread where I had asked about these two in particular. I'm really sad; these two were from my speckled Sussex "Pepper" and I was really hoping to keep one of them, she was the sweetest hen I've ever had. Looks like I get to re-home 4 boys 😵‍💫Extra devastating to have lost Hunnicutt, too. She was just like Mabel, a sex-linked female. 😢 What luck! Hatched 83% Roosters. Good thing I am not a gambler 😂

It's a thoroughbred rescue, so almost all of the horses we get are registered. In the past 6 years, we have only had (I think) 3 horses that were not and could not be registered because they went to the auction/kill pen cycle with no documentation. We have 2 fillies from a mass kill pen rescue in Texas that we don't know who their dam or sire is because they were all turned out in a pasture together unsupervised for 3 years and kept breeding. We have a mare who might be one of them's mom, she came from the same place, same rescue effort.
We have only had 3 that came in unregistered that we were able to register with the jockey club.

OK, I'm still not totally convinced Cayenne is a boy just yet. At least not enough to try and re-home her yet. She and Chili are still distinctly different, Chili is bigger than she is, with a bigger redder comb, and her comb remains light pink/orange, even though it is fairly large. Time will tell! Fingers crossed she just is a quick growing female. :fl
