What to do if egg yolk drops out of your chicken's vent?

Ok thanks for the advice!!

Will get back to you with results! Wish me luck! ^-^

@QueenMisha
 Wow this is so cool talking to you!
How would you do an internal exam?

Oh, thank you, but please - I'm just another member of this community, like the rest of us.

For an internal exam, you'll want to get some latex gloves, and lube them up with something like KY Jelly. The hen isn't going to like this, so be sure to keep her calm - try wrapping her in a towel. Very gently insert a finger into the vent. This will allow you to feel any shells or fragments of shells, or obvious large portions of egg.

And then do I just pull out the shells if there are any in there? Will that be safe? And do you think petroleum jelly (like Vaseline and stuff like that) will be good enough of a lube?

Ok I tried out your guys' advice.

1. I floated her in a tub with warm water for the entire night. She enjoyed it a lot! :D After I took her out she started eating and moving around again.

2. I looked through her vent for shards of shells and couldn't find any.

3. Still worried for her, I brought her to the vet. The vet didn't find anything in her vent either so that is good! She did take a blood test though and the results are coming in tomorrow so I am hoping for the best!
- This costed $100... very, very expensive.

Just wanted to let you guys know that for the time being, the chicken is safe! Thanks for all the help! ^-^

That's great! I'm glad to hear she's OK. Vets can be expensive, but it's generally well worth the money to get the advice of a professional. I love my avian vet personally, she's a fantastic woman and always very patient when I call her to pick her brain about something or other!
