Wrath's Marans

How old is Kong? Does he still challenge you even though he's mature?
He'll be 4 in April. Nah, he's a good boy. I have no problem with him or King even getting eye to eye. I don't recommend this of course, just my stupidity of trust.
I had an incident I think it was in 2023 where he ran up behind me and connected with my legs while carrying treats. I'm not sure if he flogged me or just not paying attention to how fast or slow I was moving, as I didn't see it happen. Hadn't happened since.

He's very pushy tho with scratch especially as I've grown accustomed to handfeeding both roos as I'm throwing scratch out. To the point where they both expect it now and I get that look if I don't if I'm rushing.

Ok good just checking. I would really love a good rooster. I guess it's like dating. You may have to go through a few duds to find a good one.

I've been very fortunate to only have good tempered boys in most all of them. I've had a couple that were aggressive to other flock members but they went.
My only real full on attack happened back in 2022 with King. He would have been right around a year ish old. Living in WV at the time and went to Mi. to remodel the daughters kitchen and laundry room for a month. When I came back I went to greet the flocks as usual that morning and I believe he didn't recognize me. I can't remember what I did, probably bent down to see the girls but he was not having any of it and came at me until I hollered "Hey, WT* !!" and he immediately stopped.

So I can only assume I left my role in his flock and was forgotten. That was my only time with anything aggressive from any of my males.

I remember telling the wife about it right after and was giving him his one free pass as we have grandbabies that visit and that wouldn't be tolerated. Thankfully that was the one and only time.

If I brought Kong in there would be overthrow of governing power. Not happening here.

Just kidding.... I'd bring the female Mar
He pretty for a guy lol. But, I do understand the over of government. My brother n law built a condo for the Marans girls. Charlie took it over. will have to tell him he doesn't lay eggs. Lol

I’d argue that the crowing is a result from his confused body clock due to his strange habit, rather than a call for attention like a barking dog or crying child might be. I say this because chickens are pretty dumb, they remember some things but they don’t really have much capacity for cause and effect.

Maybe shutting him in to the coop at night, making sure it’s pitch black in there, and not buckling in, should eventually get him used to it and he will stop crowing at a more appropriate time of the day.

But then again, some chickens are just plain weird so I guess you will just have to try.

I hope this is helpful.
I’ll respectfully disagree. I don’t think chickens are dumb.

So, does Fred get to stay on his rocker? I love it. If he was mine he would stay right where he is. I told my husband I'm bringing Steve in. Just because lol Yeah, that went over like a lead ballon. Steve has to stay were he is. Maybe next time. View attachment 4056090
Fred SLEEPS in the rocker! I do put puppy training pads under him, but he stays there all night. About 6:30 am he crows, eats a bit of the cats food, and starts pecking at the door. He joins the flock and starts acting like a normal rooster…until sundown. 🤷‍♀️
You’ve got some beauts!

Aww maybe King was just mad at you for leaving?? I wonder if temperament is genetic. My boys, even the hormone raged cockerels aren’t human aggressive. But I’ve seen videos where the rooster is like a velociraptor coming at the owner, spurs and all. Nature vs nurture?

I definitely believe temperament is genetic. Which is why I didn't want to allow my very aggressive cockerel to breed and removed him. I'll give them a couple chances because hormones are raging but there's a very obvious line to me. Repeatedly flogging me and then harming the girls while mating (tearing combs and pulling out feathers) is a deal breaker.
