Chicken Math has met it's match. The Mister is onto my "what new chicks" routine and is not amused by the number of Roo's that have been produced by straight runs in Bantams. I can go pick up my Bielefelder's but that's it. Snort. Yeah - ok. But I have already enlisted your father to help...

This may seem stupid and newbie for which I apologize - BUT - when I did the "ohhh little and cute and marked down to 50 cents each!" For straight run mystery bantams - I did a FAIL and got 4 of 6 being fiesty, aggressive, silver duck wing OEGB Roo's. For the most part - we are navigating -...

The TSC in Three Rivers has removed all signs of chicks and rearranged the floor to it's regular configuration. FF&H in Three Rivers said several more weeks yet...God bless them. The local TSC usually only had straight runs unless it was ISA Browns, RIR, and once or twice they had Leghorn...

It's a sign of one's "issues with chicken math" that when you enter FF&H the staff knows you by name and tells you they "got a new shipment of chicks since you were in...how many would you be taking home today?" Which is analogous to Norm going into Cheers and everyone yelling "Norm!" And...

There's a trick with using the ones that get that large since they obviously aren't as awesome as perfect, small tender zucchini. If you have a Vege shredder, just drop chunks of past perfect zucchini into it and shred, shred, shred. Place shreds in a BIG bowl with some sea salt and toss...

They will - last year they loved getting the extras and laid like crazy while getting all the odds and ends veges not pretty enough to eat, can or freeze. This year I don't think they will be laying before August but they will be happy. I had the woody ends from 2 lbs of fresh asparagus last...

Yeah - that's how my heirloom bean problem started. I can't get these types of beans at the Farmer's Market turned into two ginormous beds and my neighbors running from me when they see me with bags of beans... I see where this is going. I am doomed.

The coop I bought is 4x8x6 ft. High with 5 knock-out nest boxes.. The SO told me to plan on 20% loss - maybe 30% by the end of the first month outdoors. So far I have lost 1. Now - in fairness - we have every kind of predator here so I would be shocked not to lose more when they get out-side...

Fair enough - I think if I get one more coat on - that enamel should be hard enough to power wash it and not damage it. I wish it would warm up a little more so I could finish the painting...my first batch of chicks are flying all around in the garage/poke barn. I totally failed to realize how...

Well - as much as I would have liked to avoid painting - the Mister saw the OSB and after the dissertation I got on "paying for poor workmanship" and my pointing out that "the most quality focused craftsman I know had been too busy to build it himself so if he didn't like what I was left with...

I have a - "trying to make a decision / open to opinions" about Coop stuff. The coop I purchased (as a temporary 1-2 year solution until the Mister builds my chicken palace) used OSB on the floor and nest boxes. Looking at pictures online of other coops that had similar - I decided to go ahead...
