I'm in Utah, and we're usually pretty dry here! 26% humidity the last several days. Although we've had an interesting spring. It rained nearly every day for two straight months! Felt like I was in Washington!
Keith, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Here are the things I think I did right:
-The eggs I used were free from poop/dirt and unwashed.
-they were no more than a week old.
- I kept them in my cool basement pantry that stays a pretty consistent temp.
- I sanitized my incubator.
- I...
Update on my incubating mishap. I appreciate the advice I got from you all to keep incubating these eggs. I set 8 (4 BCM and 4 olive egger) ( ameraucana eggs with my BCM roosters over my black Ameraucana hen.) All 4 olive eggers hatched. Pipped on end of day 20 and hatched out on day 21. Only...
So while the incubator has been displaying 99.5, the thermometer is displaying 85. But I think the thermometer is accurate. Hopefully I haven't confused you! Lol

im using a farm innovators thermometer. The incubator is a cheap no name brand from china..
The incubator displays a much higher reading than it actually is..I went off the thermometer last time and they hatch right on day 21...
Thanks for your reply. My first hatch I set 15 eggs and 6 hatched, all on day 21. Not the best hatch rate but they were shipped eggs and my first time incubating eggs, so I was still pleased. So do you think these eggs are a total loss? Should I continue to incubate or toss them and start over...
Incubation help needed! I set some of my BCM's eggs and some ameraucana eggs 2 days ago. It's my second time using my incubator. The first hatch went well but the temperature ran a little lower than the incubator displayed.(I used a thermometer inside) So this time I set it higher, accordingly...
Update on the disappointing light BCM egg I posted about a few weeks ago. It must've been my welsummer's eggs that were that light brown color because I found this beauty in the coop when I got home last night. Yay! What a nice surprise
I have a question about egg color. My first and only BCM hen came to point of lay in oct/nov. days are short/cold here in Utah in the winter, so I wasn't surprised when I didn't get an egg from her. I hatched her from shipped eggs from a breeder in Idaho who breeds specifically for dark eggs...
Yay! Glad to hear what you think since you were right last time! She was the only egg that hatched out of a batch of 20. They were shipped eggs and every single egg had a completely detached air cell, so I'm actually surprised she made it. Must be meant to be!
Thanks for your response. I hope you're right about her being a she! Yes, looks like we're in the same situation. I haven't witnessed the cockerels bugging her too much, but she does a good job of keeping her distance from them!
