    Is it fertile?

I was shocked to discover our little gander is in fact a goose... I'm having a hard time deciding if her egg is fertile or not, and whether I should collect them for hatch. There is a gander with her, but he's paired up with another goose. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Help with breed identification please!

I have two turkey poults that we're hatched September 22nd, making them 9.5 weeks as of today. I don't know what breed they are, and the feed store was clueless when I picked them out. I'm including pictures from day one, approx 5 weeks, and within the last couple days. If any specific...

Any guesses on gestation of these eggs???

We pulled these eggs from a broody goose who keeps kicking out fully developed eggs. Any ideas on how far along they might be? The male is an African, and the females are an african, Chinese, and Toulouse if that helps at all. Thanks!

    Duck Processing

I tried the search, but I'm not coming up with much. Today is D-day for our 12 week old duck that ended up being a boy. I'm taking him to my parents house to do the deed and then smoke him. My husband and I have processed chickens and quail, so I know the general procedure, but from the little...

    Chick with bad foot?

I picked up a few chicks from the feed store today, and once they were home I noticed that one had a black foot that is all floppy and turned outward kind of. I can try to get a picture of it in the morning. It seems to be otherwise acting fine. Any ideas what this might be, and/or if it will...

    Rabbit pregnancy question?

I adopted a female rabbit about 2 weeks ago. I was told she was kept separate from any males, so when I got her home I didn't think twice about putting her in a hutch with my other female AWAY from my male. The other day I went out to feed and water them and we were having record low temps in...

    Thoughts on declawing a cat?

I'm worried this might open a can of worms, however here it goes. I once again took in a pregnant stray who had kittens, and this time we decided to keep one of them, a little male that my son is smitten with! He's about 10 weeks old now and we will obviously be neutering him, and I had just...

    Guess that mutt....

This is Buddy. He's about the most quintessential mutt around. I know dogs and dog breeds inside and out and I still have yet to figure out what the heck he is (I'm the person anyone I know comes to with dog or breed questions). He's about 5 years old and the best dog I have ever owned. Just for...

    These are boys, right???

These two are being sent off to the processor Saturday with some quail and I'm about 90% sure they are boys. Just in case I have a hen in there I want some other opinions on them. They are about 11 weeks old or so and are mixed breed. It's the first one I really have any doubts about. Thanks in...

    Quail chicks attempting mass suicide.....

I had some chicks hatch last night and i put them in the brooder with some food and water. I put rocks in the water to stop them from drowning. Well they are all getting every body part them can into the water and soaking themselves in an attempt I can only imagine is a mass suicide! For the...

Pics of my current chihuahua litter (Pic heavy... and cute heavy!)

Thought I would share some pictures of my current chihuahua litter. They will be 6 weeks on Sunday, and all are very healthy. They are all longhair chocolate Irish marked. A couple look to have the thick double coat like dad. Mom is chocolate spotted on white, 4.25 pounds and dad is a chocolate...

    Coturnix egg laying?

I have 11 coturnix quail, all of which are 8 weeks old. About a week ago I went out in the morning to find my first egg which I was very excited about. Since then, however, there has been nothing. They are on layer mash and the boys are very interested in the girls. Is this normal???

Found a basically dead chick this morning

My broody hatched out 2 chicks yesterday, and when I went to check on them this morning she was out in the run with them, and there was one cold dead wet chick in the nest box. I was going to dispose of the body and it seemed to fall backward a little. I put my finger over its eye and it blinked...

At what age can a goose sleep outside?

I have a 4 week old sebastopol. Can he sleep outside in the coop yet? He spends all day out in the yard and I've been bringing him in at night, but I'm wondering if he is ready for a night outside yet. Thanks!

    Question about cornish x's....

We have been wanting to raise our own meat birds for a while now, and I have read that you shouldn't raise cornish x about 5000 feet. I live in Colorado Springs at about 6500 feet or so. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!
