ISO/wanted show quality Cochins, Silkies & Bantam Polish.

I'm looking either for day old chicks to be shipped, or hatching eggs from Washington State. I am in Wenatchee, and will consider traveling an hour away. I would prefer to purchase from somewhere close, as I don't want the eggs to have a long transit time. I am OK with purchasing quality day old...

Need help choosing the best brown egg layer.

I am going to be buying some egg laying hens in the spring. I have a lot more experience with bantams and fancy breeds than layers. I have already decided on white Leghorns and Americanas, although I am trying to decide on a brown egg laying breed. I have been looking at RIR's, Production Reds...

    Trimming a crossed beak.

I tried trimming my chicken's crossed beak for the first time today. The top went fine, the chicken acted like I was killing it though. Then when I trimmed the lower beak it started bleeding. Is that normal? Did I do something wrong? I don't want to end up hurting the chicken any more than I...

    Button quail and Chuckars.

Does anyone know if you can keep Button Quail and Chuckars together? I'm going to have to build a new pen so I can get some Button quail, but I would also like to have a couple Chuckars. I don't think I can convince my dad to build two new pens. Also does anyone know how much room Button Quail...

OK, this time my goat kidded. PICS!

Well, my Nigerian Dwarf goat, Katie had her babies! I wasn't expecting them so soon, she really carries her weight funny, and didn't look fat. I figured it would be almost a month before she had them. She had two blue eyed does, and I've decided to keep both of them. At least these babies turned...

    My goat is kidding!

I went down at 11 AM today, and saw she was starting labor, so I've been checking on her every 30 minutes. I'm so impatient, I wish she would hurry up! The funny thing is that my friend and I traded buck services, so I brought my doe to her house to be breed, and she brought her doe to my house...

    Problem with my chick's foot.

]I noticed this on about the third day I had them, Is there anything I can do to correct this problem? I'm thinking I should cull it, but I don't know if it can be kept as a pet, or if it wouldn't have a very good life, do you guys have an opinion? I've never seen the chick walk without having...

    Need help with chick grit.

I'm buying more grit for my baby chicks, and they only have one brand. It's new and it says it has oyster shells for added calcium. Will this be OK to give to chicks? I thought I had heard something about too much calcium being bad for chicks, but I can't remember now. Should I wait and find...

    Tons of chick pictures!

I finally got my new camera today, Yay!!! I'm still trying to learn how to use it. The chicks aren't as cute and fuzzy, but I think they look OK. I just wish they weren't so dirty! I clean the brooder everyday, but they still manage to get filthy, I wish I could give them a bath. They were born...

    De-worming chickens.

I just de-wormed my chickens today with valbazen. Has anyone tried this de-wormer before? I've read it's the best. How long do I need to wait before I eat the eggs again? It sure was annoying having to catch everyone and shove liquid down their throats! I would have rather used one that can go...

Does this hatching chic look OK to you?

It started hatching yesterday around 12PM. Today at 12 I took the shell off, which was the advice given to me. Now I am wondering if the membrane is coming off fast enough? It is 2:30 now. Should I help it, or wait a few more hours?

    Chick won't come out.

The chick started hatching 24 hours ago, and now it still hasn't made much progress. The humidity has never been great, so I added more water, and a humidifier to the room at about 1 PM yesterday, and then last night at 1 AM I added about 6 wet papers towels to the incubator. At that time the...

    Ideal Poultry question

I want to order about 7 more breeds of chicks in mid March, but now I see that some are sold out until April, and they won't let you be on a waiting list. Do you guys think that if I called them I could order the sold out chickens now, to be shipped when they are in stock, or do I have to wait...

    CHICKS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!

Well, they finally got here at 6:30! I woke up at 5 am, and thought oh my gosh, they aren't going to come today! I'm too paranoid. They were born on the 21st. I bought 94, 4 were DOA and one was very ill, and died before I finished watering everyone. (It took over 90 minutes). I had hoped to get...

    Problem with my brooder's temp.

I am having a problem keeping my brooder at the right temp. It is 4 ft by 4 ft, and right underneath the heat lamp the temp is 108, but in the corner of the brooder the temp is only 68. Will this be OK? I am thinking I may need to add a second heat lamp and figure out a way to raise them higher...

    Barn almost caught on fire!

My dad made a fire to burn some trash today right by my barn. So tonight my mom told him to hose it down before they went to bed because it was windy, and of course my lazy dad said no.Then at 10pm I was reading this web site, heard the wind, and looked outside. Hundreds of sparks were flying...
