Hello! I recently got four ducklings, two pekins and two khaki campbells. I already have three adult khaki campbells. The new guys are 4-6 weeks old, pretty much have all their adult feathers in, but are still a little bit small. I don't know their genders yet, but I'm thinking one of my pekins...
One of my girls is breathing really heavily-I can see her whole body move with each breath. I noticed it this afternoon when I got back from school. She's drinking, and went in earlier to eat. Is there anything I can do for her? Isn't there vitamins and such I could get to put in her water? I'm...
It's 93 degrees Fahrenheit where I am, and my ducks are all panting. They have a nice big pond to swim in, but they're all napping in the shade right now. Anything I can do to help cool them off?
Anyone ever heard of therapy ducks before? Anyone have therapy ducks? I found this video and thought it was kind of cool Maybe I'll have to raised some therapy ducks...I want ducklings again this year and the parents aren't going for it. Perhaps therapy duck training will convince them
I will be getting two fertilized eggs from my aunt on Tuesday to incubate. She brought me two today but both turned out to be dead She'll candle the next two before she brings them. They're either a khaki campbell/pekin mix or a runner/pekin mix. She has a duck who is sitting on a clutch of...
This morning, mom and dad noticed that one of my ducks was limping. I went out 2 hours or so later when I was informed to check it out. They all appeared fine. We had to leave for most of the day for my big sis's graduation I went out immediately upon arrival home to check out my ducks. It...
I poked my head out of the back door today and called to my duckies-and they came running-all the way to the patio! (The pond is 25ft or so from the house) Two of them ate peas from my hands and then they foraged around on the patio for a while! I was so adorable! I have to clean duck poo off...
Do ducks and geese get along? I'd like to get two Sebastapols (Probably not going to happen because of the price, but I've always loved them!) But they'd have to share a pond and house with my three khaki campbells. Also-does anyone know where I can get sebastopol hatching eggs? Thank you!
The guy who boards my friends' horse has a duck, I think a pekin. His son gave it to him for thanksgiving dinner one year, but he couldn't kill it so he ended up just keeping it. Anyway, the duck, Donald, does not have any duck friends, and had bonded rather strongly with the horses. My friend...
A person I know has a horse barn, and a pekin he rescued from being dinner. This pekin, Donald (Though it might be a girl, I dunno) thinks he is a horse. He eats with them, sleeps with them, and plays with them. I've been told that there were wild ducks there at one point in time and he stayed...
Is it inhumane to keep a single duckling (when you can get more) if you spend lots of time with them and put them with the rest of your flock when they are old enough? Just wondering
I recently saw an ad for free black east indies drakes. I think they are absolutely beautiful, and would love to have some. How would they get along with my 3 Khaki campbell girls? I have a 4' by 4' A-frame coop for my ducks, how many could I have for this nighttime space? Any info on BEI would...
I'd really like some geese. It's probably not going to happen while I'm still living at home (still have most of high school plus college) but I have some theoretical questions. Shhh!! Don't tell my parents, haha! Right now I have 3 ducks, khaki campbells. Would the geese get along with them...
A while ago the wild mallards left, but before going, they taught my ducks a valuable lesson. Now when my ducks stay out all night on the pond, they don't sleep on the shore, oh no! Not only do they stay on the water, but after dark, they won't even come out from under the raft! Smart ducks.
Two wild female mallards joined my flock a while back. I named them Bonnie and Clyde. A few days ago, they disappeared, and I thought they had migrated. Well, a little while ago, when I was out with my ducks, Bonnie flew in, no Clyde in sight. Huh. (Bonnie was always a whole lot friendlier than...
Recently my small (3 ducks) flock has adopted two wild (I'm assuming) female mallards, which I have dubbed Bonnie and Clyde. The mallards have been completely accepted; my ducks won't go anywhere without them, and won't go to bed because they don't want to leave Bonnie and Clyde. As my ducks...
