I too love the noises mine make. They are such sweet sounds. Then I have one Duck that actually Honks like a Goose! What a variety of sounds out of 12 Hens and 3 Drakes. 2 are Muscovy Hens and the rest a variety of different ducks including my Mule.

It's so good that you can do this. This way at least they do not suffer and go to good use feeding you folks.

It's funny because the first one I got as a baby was as quiet as could be. This one came from Craigslist at 3 months of age and about broke our eardrums all the way home from where we got it. I should have known then why it was on Craigslist, lol. She gets my youngest female Fawn and White...

I have my one Khaki Campbell Duck that can wake up the neighborhood with her big mouth. Especially at midnight, then 2:30 AM then 5 AM when I leave the house. I am surprised my neighbors haven't asked me to get rid of her but none of them seem to mind, thank heavens. What kind of bird is it...

I have to sell my Drakes to a family friend that eats them and feeds his family with them. I could never do my own or eat any Duck as far as that goes. What a wimp I am. I can pinion my ducklings and take care of my prolapsed ducks by amputating what needs to come off but that is as far as I...

I am so sorry to hear this. I pray that my Mule stays alright as she is a big bird also. Her dad was so large though and my large Rouen so there was no chance of my Mule Ducks being small. I pray that the rest of the flock stays well.

You are so right, my Rouen ducks can only get around 3 feet off of the ground but my big Mule Duck with a huge wing spread can do every bit of 6 or 7 feet which amazes me.

Is there a reason for the number being 45? I was just curious. My top number for ducks was going to be 10 but I ended up with 15 because I was never very good in math, lol.

Yes mine got pinioned because our neighbor had Pitt Bulls and if they flew over the fence they would get eaten by them. The ones that are not clipped so far have been good about staying with me. I keep a close eye on them while I am in their pen working though. I have heard of people having...

My one girl was pinioned but I got the other one at 3 months and after molting she has all of her feathers. She has been showing me she can flap them very fast but has not tried to fly out of the part of the pen they are allowed in while I am doing duck duties in theirs. My Mule duck was...

Some people even put roosting bars in their pens for them but since mine have always been with my Mallard derived ducks they have never had the desire to roost. My Sons would fly up in his trees to sleep at night to be safe from predators when he had them years ago.

    Larkwell Valley (2023)

Yes mine do. That was another way I could identify my Mules. They can use them to Roost in a tree or defend their nests.

My Mules also had the back hook on their legs which my Mallard derived ducks never had so I knew they were Mules for sure. No red on the faces, huge, back hook.

Wow, I figured she was a Mule as I did not know they got that big. I had a Call duck mate my Mallard and it was Swedish so it stayed a lot smaller, about the size of a Mallard. She is huge!!!

It's just funny how Mule Ducks are. They look like they are part Goose because of their huge size. Mine look similar to that and would make a big meal if ever eaten but she has no chance of that, lol.

They are BEAUTIFUL!!!! They remind me a lot of my Lucky as she is huge like that and boss of the Duck Pen. When she marches around everyone gets up and gives her space. She does not pick on any of them but just because of her size she gets a lot of respect.

They grew very fast and got huge in what seemed no time at all. My Hen is almost the same size as my Drake was that I kept. She even got part of a ring around her neck which made me think at first she was a Drake. I knew by the color of the eggs that they were mixes as my smaller green eggs...

None of my Mules had any red on their faces. They were also very quiet for the longest times and then my boys would let out the hiss of the male Muscovy and my girl could quack but only when scared or excited. She also let out other stranger sounds at times. She hangs mostly with the Muscovy...
