Most of the shows have been cancelled due to covid.

I understood but there are a lot of people who don't know the difference. To some a chicken is a chicken and just for eggs. There was a show last weekend but I didn't go. It was cold and I'm still leery of covid because I'm an old lady with conditions.

I don't consider hatchery birds "pure". This isn't Ideal but most hatcheries flock breed.

I have single comb white leghorns and rose comb dark brown leghorns along with my RIR's and RIW's.

Years ago I got my original birds from breeders. They lay well and are a bit larger in stature than the hatchery birds. I sold some awhile back and some people asked what they were and I told them Leghorns. They were surprised at their size.

I thought processing my own birds would be a savings and it probably is for a smaller backyard flock, but in reality I can buy a processed bird from the butcher down the road much cheaper than selling a male. For each male I sell is at least a bag of feed. I realize I feed them while growing...

Generally my hatches are close to 50/50. I do grow out my chicks and keep the best and sell the rest. Most people don't care about the SOP. They just want eggs and a rooster to hear him crow or to protect the females which can be a crap shoot too.

That couldn't have happened because they were quarantined for a month before I put the male in so even if they were with another male they should have cleaned out. One of the females lays a cream colored egg so I'm sure she has something else in her. These are my Leghorns. These are the chicks...
