Anybody thinking about a leap year (Feb 29th) hatch? I haven't hatched in months now and I'm getting an itch to put quail in the freezer plus I have a local BYC member who's son is begging for some pet quail. I was thinking about when I would like to hatch and figured leap year would be fun.

It's going to be butcher weekend I think... I am planning to cull 8-10 quail cocks, 1 drake duck, and 2 turkey hens (if they are large enough when I weigh them). Should be 30 lbs of meat going into the freezer. That's 3 weeks worth of dinner and some lunches.

Not sure what's typically but I lose about 5-10% after hatch. The larger the batch the lower the percentage. Losing 5 of 100 is no big deal, but losing 5 of 20 hurts. There always seems to be a few though no matter what.

I have a bunch of silvers. I am not quite seeing silver there. At least not solid silver. Looks a lot like a pharoah with some strain of grey or silver peaking through. I think it's going to be mostly brown though.
