May be a long shot asking here but I’m needing a hand translating some German text to English 😅 It is regarding birds but as we all know, google translate is awful at times... I’ve asked around but not sure where else to look for help with it now.

I personally haven’t found them any more difficult than chicken chicks or other quail chicks. I held a few often when they were very young but eventually I just pretty much left the chicks to it, give them what they needed and they are thriving. Of course with my very hands off approach they’ve...

The eggs are in an upright turner (a cradle one) so all the eggs are definitely getting turned equally). I’m really not sure what’s happened with that chick. All I know when I cracked it there was an awful lot of yolk in the egg with it (which was what I was seeing when candling). Very strange...

There was no movement visible when I candled the egg, I usually go off that too. It was just a dark band around the middle off the egg, clear at both sides of it. The chick wasn’t underdeveloped, it was developed enough to be a day 17 chick which is what’s confused me as to why it was squashed...

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I know it’s not a quail but I wanted to ask here as I’m so confused! So, today is day 17 of Silkie eggs I’m incubating. They’re coming off the turner tomorrow for lockdown so I candled tonight to look for quitters as you do. Four of them looked like my diagram I’ve drawn here as I never got...

I agree with you! I use the puppy pads for my quails and chickens (the dry birds as I call them 😂) as the puppy pads always stay dry for them the first few days. The ones I use have little ridges in them with helps their grip. I then switch to the big flake shavings after a few days because...

I always use puppy pads for the first 3-4 days then after that I switch them to big flake shavings 😊

No I use Rcom incubators and have never had an issue, they always read true from their own thermometers, plus the ones I have there is no space in them for me to add multiple thermometers. It’s just this incubator was sold second hand but it obviously needs recalibrated itself to match the...

One of our second hand incubators was hot to the touch compared to my other incubators the same which I bought new, this was the first time using this second hand one. It had 6 peafowl eggs in and out of the 6, two were infertile but 4 started growing. After a few days though, 3 of the 4...

I always take any that hatch out as soon as they are dry regardless of if there is others pipping or on with hatching. If they’re ready to come out, they come out. My incubators bring the humidity back up within 30 seconds or so though so I have no issues.

I have clipped them once before but they’ve since grown back in after his wild moult! 😂 Hugo was a lone quail raised with my Silkies from hatch so his behaviours are different to normal quail. He can flutter but he’s never learned to flush up like most quail. Instead, he’s got a good set of...
