I have had such a crazy busy winter/early-spring that I only just this week set up my breeding pens for my blue andalusian-ameraucana project. I am so excited to get hatching! I had not hatched a single chick in one year! Just pretty much spent the last 12 months watching my birds grow out...
Lol... I have spent a couple years following every post on this thread...I have not been able to keep up for a number of months now. But I see I missed nothing!
Oh crap... I am gonna get pulled back in just by posting once. Ack! I am such an addict! Lol
Well I missed 19 pages but... nothin new. lol!!
Egg color discussions and ameraucana VS easter eggers. Does anyone feel like they are experiencing deja vu?
I am 19 pages behind!!! Didn't think I was gone that long. I will have to catch up later.
My email account that all my notifications goes to has been having trouble and without those reminders I finally got out of practice of checking backyard chickens.com. No excuse I know.
Lark your eggs...
Thank you so much for that advice! I am printing out your comment so I can refer to it. I also want advice on breeding the andalusians. I have totally fallen in love with them and will keep a flock of pure Andalusian. I need to know the best way to breed these birds to keep them awesome. :)...
@ Twizzlebee ... very nice!
I took some pictures today.
Here is a pic of a 3 month old blue andalusian. I do believe that this bird has all the pattern genes.
And here is a picture of a bird with "edging"..
It is going to be a challenge in future breedings to cull hard and...

I know that many blue birds do not have the required lacing. Crazy huh? Maybe just cuz it is such a big hassle to get the lacing in there. lol
I have no shows to go to and the chickens are just pure hobby so having a super long term goal fits...
Normally I would totally agree about the splash. And in my future generations I can never use a splash. But these are Tom Roebuck's birds. So I do know what is under the splash...
this! lol! Joke
It really is cool to see actually lacing. Instead of all the edging that I have...
Well... I just sorted out all my birds in the grow out pen. It was getting a little crowded. I put all the cockerels into a pen and all the pullets into another pen.
Here is what I have to start my laced blue project...
John Blehm's ameraucana blacks...
7 cockerels and 12 pullets (good...
Worst traffic in the country??! Where do they come up with this stuff? Maybe they meant Honolulu... Which is about 5 islands and hundreds of miles away from me. Lol. I can drive for 1 1/2 hours and only see 20 cars on the road. The Big Island is twice the size of all the other islands put...
Me? Lol
5am my alarm goes off and I check messages on my iphone while the coffee brews then kids kids kids. Lol
My kids go to a charter school 1 1/2 hours from our house so the day starts early here. Lol
So what kind of birds were used to get the lacing in them originally? I was under the understanding that no blues had the pattern genes. I have seen pics of beautiful edging but no lacing- pattern genes.
I would be very interested in seeing these birds!
