Getting an egg a day and Husband busted the layer! Sweet little Barred Plymouth Rock is giving us the perfect one a day eggs! Saw eight playing in the nesting boxes this morning as well!!
Anyone try out pallet coops? Found a man with a major excess and thought about giving it a try.
I had a couple of feisty roos and read to pen the head to the ground firmly for 5 seconds with the tail in the air in front of the other chickens. I tried it on one and haven't had a problem since. I do plan on culling all but one or two but they will not he mistreated in any way before we...
No. Eggs. Talked to the hens yesterday .. I have graciously granted them another 5 weeks to start giving me eggs before I start stocking my freezer with hen.
I think they all realize I mean business, except for 1 BPR hen who just likes to Peck my toes. She may be sent to freezer camp with the...
I use mobile and can't get pics to upload. I do have some posted on instagram under MoleySteele though. The oldest are 24 weeks, RIR, BPR, BSL. The youngest are 17 or so weeks, EEs, another RIR and BPR, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington...and some other impulse buys mixed in there...all are...
Guess what!?!?!?!!??!!?!?
No. Eggs.
Can someone trade hens with me? I'll trade any, except Lemon-Pepper, and Dawn, and Sparkles, and any of the original girls...or Cheesecake...or the EE's my nieces love so much. So, basically, who wants to trade my roosters for your laying hens? I hear...
Still. No. Eggs. I'm out of town for the weekend so of course they will probably start this weekend!! Also, I stole the brown eggs (and cookies from the cookie jar). It was jealousy, pure and simple. Problem solved. Your welcome.
Shew! Had to catch up. Have been off for a while. My oldest girls have beautiful red faces but nothing yet. They are around 20 weeks. I think the heat we had recently put then off a little...
Still haven't built that run addition either. I'll get to it..when The youngest starts school next...
The "roo" was an early Bloomer with the comb and wattles (waddles?) And at 15 weeks they have just stopped growing and not anywhere close to as red as my definite roos...no crowing or egg laying yet. I'm horrible ay waiting patiently and I'm pretty sure they know and are using it against me...
I have a coupleof 15 weekers that are VERY interested in the nesting boxes so I've tossed in some golf balls! They are getting pretty red faced as well so keeping fingers crossed for some early layers! I've also discovered my favorite (a roo so will be eaten) may actually be a hen!!
We started...
Speaking of birthdays, I'm 24 today :-)
Spending the day with the kids, husband, and numerous chickens. Chickens MUST know it's a special day because they've all decide to take turns on my shoulder today!
Ben, can you fly to Indiana and put a little of that creativeness to work in my coop?
She's just very lethargic. Buff orp about 4-5 weeks old. Crop feels fine except for an air bubble feeling thing. No mites, lice, gnats. Not an impacted crop and I don't suspect sour crop, I've dealt with that this week with another chicken. Poop is normal. She's keeping her head in her feathers...
Haha! This thread never fails to keep be entertained! We are dealing with mystery illness around here today. We as in I because husband thinks he should work for a living. I mean, seriously! Why do we need money?!? Must just be an excuse to get away from the chicken poo and kids that try to run...
I usually just stalk this thread, although I've commented a time or 2. I live in southern Indiana...I had a girl on Instagram bash me over a chicken eating comment....she ended up a slightly confused (and her mouth shut thankfully) when I CALMLY told her my reasoning for raising and eating my...
I can't believe I've had chickens for such a short time! Seems like forever...on a good way. I have my twelve 10-11weekers firmly in their coop..now trying to socialize with the 7 weekers...
What a blast!
