And there was a small hypothesis moment earlier, do lav x lav birds have this problem more than birds that are more heavily bred back to black?
I have never had any black birds get sun bleached, and I have several that are also soft-feathered (cochins and orps). I would think that...

The sun can bleach any color.......even black. It depends on how much direct sun the birds get. lavenders will not only bleach, but they can show brownish shades in the plumage from the sun as well.
Males show the effects of sun bleaching more than females do...usually.

I have my whites in a tarped pen, and I've not had problems with the sun. So I think I'm going to move my lavenders to the ajoining pen to the whites and see if this helps. I'm not too worried about it though. I'll get some pictures tomorrow, because its suppose to be sunny out. I'll take a pic...
That is what I've noticed. None of my hens are affected. My breeder rooster is molting and much of his left, but my backup rooster has it really bad. I was just making sure I wasn't crazy! I've only had the lavenders since April. In my reasearch of course I read about stuff like the poor feather...
How prevelent is sun bleaching in lavenders? I know that you can burn or get bleached our white birds, but I've not heard the subject referenced much in Lavenders. I'm not very well versed in lavender matters such as these.

I'll second that. I know I don't DARE post on this thread because I know I would get jumped all over and my birds are indirectly from JEAN, as chicks. Life is too short to deal with online razzing and lectureing.
But I do read most of it, trying to learn. (I skip over the...

I understand that eggs are different colors at different times. The article from Bev Davis' site said that the flock of birds had to demonstrate that they COULD lay a #4 color egg. Of course at different times of the year egg color can be lighter, darker, etc.
I did see Jean's...

Yeah the County Fair brings out some interesting birds! I'm working on the lavender's angle but the Brown Reds are a work in progress and theres not many people with them! I'm hoping to get some hatched out soon... I'm excited to see how these new babies shape up. The black cockerel is...
Ok well that is the one I've been breeding from so I guess I'm on course. I have one of his daughters in with my Lavender rooster, maybe that will help things out in that pen. I'm getting very frustrated with my silvers so I think they may be on the chopping block to leave. I just can't get it...
Ok not to veer from the subject but the other day I asked about what a 45* tail angle was and how I was kind of lost about where to go with the collection of male birds I have.
1. Old Black Cock bird -- I think he's 2 years old. FYI he's molting
-He has 5 offspring that I have...

Is there some sort of a rule like this with ameraucanas? It seems like there should be a rule about the eggs. Obviously they need to lay a blue egg right? But should the hen be able to lay a certain intensity of blue? Because like with marans, the egg color of ameraucanas is...
In a couple of my more rare varieties I just have to work through it but my others that are hatching better ei. my Lavs and Blacks and Splits. I'm having a bit more luck.
I NEED TO POST PICS OF MY BROODY its too cute! I'll also try to get some of the boys in question.
I don't think so... its suppose to be a 45*. I just assumed that was the LF standard as well.
Here is what the ABC has on their site..... my standard is MIA at the moment. God only knows where I put it!
TAIL: Well spread, medium length, carried at 45º above horizontal...

Or 1 & 2 depending on "the good side"
10 or 2 would be good. Steve is from Australia.
Well I ask because I'm having some issues with tail angles in my roosters. I don't know which one to choose. Like I have 3 black males to choose from but I don't know which to choose!

AWESOME!
I just went to the Indiana State Fair today and I was disappointed at the quality of birds at the show. There were only TWO real LF Ameraucanas in AOSB class and there were several bantams but only blue and black. There were a bunch of EEs there. There was also one bantam...
