Try making the ramp wide, with a really shallow incline, and have something on it so they don't slip. Rails are good, too, since they can easily fall off and hurt themselves. Then, bribe them up with snacks!
I'd rather give a duck a good life and a quick death than buy one raised in a factory farm under who knows what conditions. It sucks, but unless you're going to give up meat entirely, I'd rather do it that way.
That being said, I don't think I could eat any of my ducks. Not the ones I hand...
I found one in the pool the other day. Tossed it, I was assuming it had been in there long enough for the nasty pool water to seep into the egg. Yuck.
They need to make a duck that doesn't make their pool filthy the minute you fill it.
Yep, only the girls quack. The boys just sound like they swallowed a frog.
Dried mealworms are great for ducks, just don't give them too many! It's a snack, not a meal. I really need to get some for my ducks!
Purina flock raiser is a good option, mine really liked it. Any good chicken food (pellets are good, less waste) will work, especially if you keep supplementing it with niacin until they're at least 20 weeks old.
Pekins are actually really big cuddlebugs... as far as ducks go. They're really laid back. They're going to freak out when you try to pick them up. And when you walk in the room. And when you wear sunglasses. Or a hat. Spend as much time with them as you can, and try getting them to eat out of...
He's preening your "feathers", or lack thereof. Humans have an appalling lack of feathers to clean, so we wind up getting nibbled and pinched while our ducks are trying to clean us. It means they like you.
Ducks have earholes. Nothing at all to worry about.
If he's trying to bite you, is it a really fast nibble or a hard pinch and twist? The really fast nibble means he's trying to groom you.
They look like Pekins to me. The fifth one looks a lot like a Pekin mixed with a Welsh Harlequin or Mallard. She's too big to be a pure Welsh Harlequin, and the color isn't quite right.
