He just sees things differently than I do. The birds are livestock to him and pets to me. We have to compromise and get rid of some, and he's getting annoyed that I don't want to butcher them all. He just doesn't understand. I probably shouldn't throw him under the bus like that but I'm just a...

So my husband came home yesterday with four grown chickens to add to our own four chickens to help meet the demand of chicken eggs. I did a count, and now with the added chickens, I have 26 birds in my little backyard! It's just way too many. So I'm looking at downsizing my flock for the sake of...

My husband put up a sign at our new place and have started selling our duck and chicken eggs. $2 a dozen, $1.50 if they bring their own carton. Holy cow! I sold two dozen a couple days ago and three dozen today. I don't think we have enough birds to keep up with the demand lol. But unfortunately...

Yup, good eye! I have four chickens amongst lord knows how many ducks. The ducks that enjoy the shower the most are the mallard sisters and their nearly grown offspring. Here they are: Oh, by the way. Who says ducks can't perch? ;)

I guess the reason I find it surprising is that she isn't currently laying. So how the instinct to sit kicked in baffles me. I'll have to keep an eye on the eggs to see if they live or not. I feel bad, lol.

I've got a bit of an unusual situation. Yesterday while egg hunting, I came across a clutch of seven or so mixed eggs. I figured since there were only seven and they were mixed, that they had been laid recently and threw them in my basket with the rest. Fast forward a couple hours, and I was...

My ducks cracked me up yesterday. My husband and I were working on the new coop and these little buggers were sticking their heads in and begging for treats. So naturally they got what they wanted lol [VIDEO]

Since adding nesting boxes, my ducks lay in them about 80-90% of the time. We used cheap storage Totes with holes in the side. Works great. Ducks can start laying as early as 4mo old.

Thanks! Here's all the birds in their new home (except the six roosters in my freezer lol, took care of those last week). Main duck shed is in the back left, and the mamas and babies have their temporary set up against the side of the house under the eaves.

Holy moly. All my ducks are moved over to our new house. Getting those two mama mallards and their week old babies was just the worst experience ever. I got bit, scratched and pooped on. Ugh. But everyone is happy and moved in to the new yard...except the people lol. Still got a lot to move!

Final count is seven babies. Three silver, three goldens and one black. It kills me that I can't cuddle them but their moms are doing a great job so far :)

Yes they sat together and hatched together. The eggs were never without someone sitting on them because they would take their breaks at different times. These two are sisters that weregiven to us last summer as orphans after their mom was hit by a car. The owner didn't have the means to care for...

I'm very sorry for the loss of your duck. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. And the way you found him makes it all the worse. I hope your husband gets home soon so you can feel better. Sending virtual hugs your way.

Theyre all doing fine. The squished baby was just resting after hatching. There are six totak so far, with one egg that may yet hatch. One black, two silver and three goldens. Their mothers are wildtype mallards and their fathers could either be a mallard, a welsh harlequin or a mallard/runner...

My two mallards started sitting on May 11th. Day 28 was yesterday. The are no ducklings hatching yet. How long do you typically let your broodies sit before pitching the eggs? I wish I could see what's going on underneath them and the they're in a corner out of reach.

I have two Mallard females sharing a nest of eggs that are due in the next couple days to hatch. Do you typically separate the moms and babies from the rest of the flock after they hatch? I'm worried that the other ducks and chickens will kill the babies, or that they might follow their moms in...
