Shad, good to see that you are back on your feet ( sort of) . I'm sure the chickens meant to say thanks, but it slipped their little birdbrains. Good for C, bummer that the rest did not step up.

Stilton is so handsome! I live vicariously here as I can't have roos, love all the pics. Last Monday, my sis and I took a day trip to Petaluma, and stopped at our favorite plant nursery. As we walked in I heard a crow, and commented on it. The man at the counter immediately said, "Do you want...

I also prefer to go the shelter/rescue/stray route. I don't have anything against pure reds and responsible breeders but there are so many needing homes, and I like taking the ones others discarded and finding value there. A little training, love and attention, and they are fabulous. Currently...

I also appreciate the thoughtful and well researched discussions in this thread. It's a big part of why I follow it ,as well as living vicariously, the more natural chicken lives with roosters and broody raised chicks.

Yes, but I don't use it much, so it doesn't bother me.

Yes, we do have specific cups for measuring. I hardly cook, but I have all the gear, lol. Even though I haven't baked in years, I got hooked on the Great British Baking show. I was, wait, what? They're weighing the ingredients? Wow, who knew? Well you all, obviously. So, back to chickens, and...

I just finished catching up on Rusty's thread. I'm glad to see she's improving. Slash is adorable.

Go Dusty! Slash is so cute. (The chick, that is) I hope it's a girl, so you don't have more cockerel drama. A frizzle or two, on my long wish list. Maybe someday.

You could get that here, in the S.F. bay area. My sister is bringing the turkey this year, and she looked for pasture raised. That price is right on target. People are becoming aware that it's the humane thing to do.

Yes, the hard stare. I saw it a lot between Willa And Nevada before Willa went to bully jail. Now she pretends she doesn't see her at all. Dogs do it too. So do people.

My chickens have all loved privet berries. I have always given the apple cores to my dogs, who love them.Nevada says " I like apple cores too"

Well, Willa is still a troublemaker, though not her fault, now. When I got this trio, I looked them over well, eyes and nares clean, no wheeze ing, sneezing, butts clean no mites or lice. Quarantined for two weeks, all good. I did notice that Willa had some really fat toes, but I was not familiar...

Mrs Northie, I'm so sorry about your Ribbies. It's never easy. :hugs It's good to hear that the chickens are doing well.

Yes, many places require permits for large or venomous snakes. Is it hard to get a permit? I would think having had them before would help.

I'm so sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I was wondering if a small indoor bird such as a cockatiel or small parrot would be something you can do or would consider. A handfed one can be amazingly personable and cuddly. Nobody will ever replace Skeksis, but you may find a new love.

This is interesting but I'm not sure if I'm convinced. My chickens have a mirror, in the "garden" area, but don't pay much attention to it. I suppose it could be that they know it's themselves but even when they first saw it there was no real excitement about it. I think that they would have to...

Congrats on the new flat, I hope the convenience of being closer overrides the inconvenience of being smaller. Yay for finally being able to reign in C somewhat. I have many concerns about GMO chickens, but one thing that sprang to mind, what if the "resistant" chickens that show no symptoms...

I used to be vegetarian all though my 20's, for humane reasons. I never had problems with it, but at that age one can beat up your body a lot ( drinking, late nights, stupid stuff) and get away with much of it. Then I married a carnivore and gradually we melded into eating some meat but not...
