Right? Super smart! I really do love these guys. Now if they'd stop eating all my eggs and birds that would be great :barnie I picked up an owl decoy which hopefully will keep them away, although with how smart they are I'm going to have to move it around a lot or they'll figure out it's fake...

Cute! I had a drake that was raised with chickens and he was attached to one of my roosters. Followed him around everywhere. He did eventually abandon him for the girl ducks though, lol.

Right? These things are as big as my roosters. As I said in my original reply, the guineas were fighting with them, but the ravens weren't backing down. If I hadn't gone out there, there's a good chance the ravens would have teamed up and killed the adult guineas. It's not one bird, it's a pair...

Thanks! And yep, I'll have to pack the stuffing out of the eggs to make sure they make it safely across the country to you, lol. Aren't goslings just the cutest babies? :love

I'm not gonna feel bad about getting rid of predators that have been preying on my flock for over a year, plain and simple. And I'm not going to feel bad that the ravens managed to fly up to the top of a totally predator proof brooder made of hardware cloth and pop the latch to open the door...

Trust me, I don't want to kill these ravens. I like birds (obviously). I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to. And no, I'm not going to beat myself up about losing a duckling that was protected by being inside a brooder inside a secure coop attached to a secure covered run that no other predator...

They drank too much too quickly and overfilled their crop so it started coming back up. I've had this happen before. It's scary, but it's nothing to worry about. In other, sadder, news, the **** ravens got my duckling!!!! I had let the cemanis out to free range and the ravens went through the...

So little ducky's wound has healed up really nicely. There's still a scab but a lot of the wound has already healed and has new skin. Today she and her guinea keet pals moved out of the house into a secure pen in my ayam cemani coop, where my other ducks currently reside (really need to actually...

What do they look like? If it's a Canada goose it's likely wild and because of the angel wing it couldn't fly away with the others. If it's anything else it's likely domestic (there are a few other things it might be, but they are migratory and really only winter in CA, like snow geese).

The wound is below her ear. It could be an internal part of the ear, but the top part actually isn't attached to anything, only the bottom - and that's not something that happened in the attack, it looks as though it was designed that way. So I'm really not sure at all what it's for. Hopefully...

What I should have done is taken a picture and brought it in to my avian vet yesterday when I took my parrot in for his checkup :/ Wish I'd thought of it. Maybe I'll give them call and see if they'd be willing to take a look at this picture and see what they think.

Ducky update, she's doing well, the wound is scabbing over, she's eating and drinking, and the swelling has gone down so her eye is now opening up again. The problem I'm running into is whatever this odd structure is that was exposed by the attack isn't scabbing over like the rest of the wound...

Sorry I didn't answer yesterday! She's hanging in there. Unfortunately the side of her face that was wounded has swelled up so one of her eyes is swelled shut. There is also some odd structure that has been exposed by the wound that I hope won't impede healing. I'm putting DermaCleanse on the...

I'm not having good luck lately :( I let my three week old ducklings out for the first time today. I went into the house for not ten minutes and the geese started going crazy. I ran outside to find a raven in the run with the ducklings attacking them. It went after their heads, and instead of...

Well, I acquired more ducks from the neighbors that don't feed their animals enough. They are all juvenile females (meaning they bought them this year, because they needed more ducks, obviously) and they appear to be a black swedish, a rouen, and a khaki campbell. If they want to stay, I'll keep...

Looks like yours was a female - I don't see any wings. Males have wings but no stinger, so they're pretty harmless. Females don't have wings but they have very potent stings. If they could sting a duck through their feathers it would be really painful for them. They are actually generally very...

So my welsh harlequin hatch went well - except out of nine eggs I only got two females :th And Sugar my broody pekin hatched one of the two eggs I put under her when it pipped and she loves the baby, so that's good. The other one never hatched, unfortunately, but at least she has one baby...

X2 on this, the egg laying process leaches the color from them as they lay, just like with some chickens whose legs get paler as they've been laying. But when they first start laying there's really no noticeable difference.

Well, all my waterfowl are molting here. Willow, the Canada goose hybrid, already molted in June when full blooded Canada geese molt. As always happens with Canada geese, she lost all her flight feathers at once, losing the ability to fly, and now they've grown back. Lacie goose is molting and...

Lol, and after all that talk about my geese, some of them are on the home page carousel :P I'm gonna go ahead and get the ducklings. If Sugar won't take them I have a couple broody hens that would love to.
