Yes, the hen can hear the eggs. And she will set until the last eggs hatch, mine sat for 6 days. Leave the chicks in close quarters so they don't run off and call momma away from the eggs and they will probably all hatch for you. Be sure and post pictures when they are all fluffed out and...

I am a bit behind, but I do not see where this was answered. Breeding White into Splash will not "clean up" the Splash.. it will mess up the genetics. Genetic colors do not mix like paint. White is two copies of recessive White hiding every genetic possibility under it. No clue what you will...

Thanks Chickee. I am getting better but its a slow road. I am not going to be able to drive to Chickenstocks I am so sorry about your porcelain chick! She was a beauty too... Yes, the Whites are easy to perfect - and you can make more whites in two generations using any color rooster...

Feather sexing does not work on Silkies. Guessing sometimes works - but only if you know your lines. The only thing that really works is if they lay an egg. Otherwise.. its a guess..

If you are breeding Black I would not use it. If you are breeding Silver Partridge fine. If you are not breeding for any recognized colors, fine. And I agree, he is a boy.

Yay, such cute splashes too! And no - my silkies don't need any saddles - they aren't cold and they aren't broken feathers. I wonder if the split feathers are stronger or just don't break like the regular ones. Oh, and Urchin, sorry about Thunderhead. Ella will get over him if she has...

I am not sure I would even call him Smutty Buff - I would just call him an Easter Egger because of his mom. I think your Buff rooster may already be Smutty Buff - check his wings and tail carefully for any black or blue. Partridge distillation of Buff would be my guess if you want the genetics...

They are at that adorable stage. People say gawky teen-agers, I say so darn cute! They don't stay in a line any more for kisses, do they Is that a Porcelain girl on the right hand side of both these pictures? Low stance, and really nice dark buff coloring on that one. I think I see a...

All Silkies are silkied. I have never heard of Silked. What did you buy that you were asking questions about? Silkied means they have two copies of the "silkied" gene for split feathers. This is what gives them the fuzzy look instead of the feathered look. I have no clue what she means by...
